What an incredible opportunity working with Jill Barron at The Art of the Cowgirl.
Jill shared powerful insights, especially the reminder that horseback riding is truly a dance. The slightest change in a rider’s body can completely transform communication with the horse.
The horse featured in this video is a 27-year-old retired barrel horse who now serves as one of our trusted lesson horses. Over the years, he has carried many different riders. With that experience, he has learned to brace in response to tension or inconsistency from the rider. His history makes him an incredible teacher — he gives honest feedback and clearly reflects what the rider is communicating.
Because of opportunities like this, our program is able to bring what was learned back home — continuing to grow and share that knowledge with students in Bloomfield and the surrounding areas.
Jill often says that horses speak a universal language — and it’s our responsibility as riders to learn how to listen, speak, and understand it. No matter your skill level, there is always room to grow, refine, and improve.
As instructors, we dedicate countless hours to learning, practicing, and even being critiqued — all so we can better serve our students and our horses to the very best of our ability. Growth never stops, and neither does our commitment to excellence.
Below is a video comparing Day One riding with Jill versus Day Two. The difference? Small adjustments. Greater awareness. Clearer communication.
It’s amazing what happens when we become more intentional in how we move and connect.
A heartfelt thank you to everyone in the program who made this opportunity possible.
