The Sanctuary offers its heartfelt condolences to our own Bethany in the loss of her beloved dog, Sage. Sage was 15 years old and a faithful companion to Bethany and visited the Sanctuary many times, even helping to bring horses in! Rocket, a favorite of Bethany and friend of Sage offers condolences on behalf of the horses. Sage is buried at the Sanctuary next to the arena where she can watch Bethany teach her many lessons. Many thanks to Uriel and Ramon for their assistance in the burial.

Here at The Sanctuary we are privileged to have two of Secretariat's offspring - Diamond and Missy. These mares have been here many years, and like their great grandfather, can run like the wind. My one wish before I am called home is to visit the great Secretariat's final resting place at Claiborne Farms. Maybe next year. I came across the following posting - no attributed author - recently and it says it all, "At your time, he will come back for you with wings upon his shoulders, for the Lord has called you - Rider Up!! The last call to post." My hope is that the horses I have lost will come for me on the other side. And maybe - just maybe - I will see Big Red grazing off in the distance.

Well Mother Nature still not done with us. Raining and blowing like crazy. Not to mention thunder and lightening. Again. Could we just get over this rain stuff?

Happy soggy Friday to everyone! Many of you have texted for an update on how all our horses did with the torrential downpour this morning. We are very glad to report that everyone is fine and snuggled in. The Roamers came in before the storm got going in all its fury. We were very blessed to have Taylor with us to help bring the rest in from pastures. We went into their shelters to get them, and with Wesson, Slick, Otto and Thunder we opened their gate and with Wess leading the way, they came splashing into their stalls. We got their stalls all cleaned and they got all their breakfast hay and One and Only! This afternoon Aubree and Taylor were both helping get afternoon feeding done for all. Ponies and TAPs horses were all safe and sound and were safely in their run-ins during the rain. We are hopeful that everyone will get to enjoy turnout tomorrow after breakfast and that we have some drying up of the once-again mud which we seem to struggle with of late. Thanks again to Taylor and Aubree for their much needed and appreciated help today! Keep us in your thoughts and prayers and hope for some sunshine.

Update of Kaye: Our veterinarian examined Kaye today and she has EPM and also laminitis. Both are serious, but she is being treated and should be more comfortable by tomorrow. She will be on her EPM meds for a month then reevaluated. For the laminitis she is on bute and we are hoping for relief for her. Today she was able to spend time in the arena with her friend Tilly. Then Kaye returned to her stall for rest - although she would have liked to be with her friends in pasture. She will have to be content with limited turnout in the round pen for the next month and that will be only for mornings. We are hopeful that this will have a positive outcome and buy her some more time.

We have had our beautiful appaloosa, Kaye with us for many years. She is now 27 years old and this picture is from some time ago before she retired with medical issues. Kaye has EPM which affects her mobility, especially the hind legs, and she is not stable. This morning she was not able to get up when we went to get her from pasture to come in for breakfast. It was all hands on deck to help this mare stand - and many many thanks to Levi, Matt, Haley, Judi for their assistance. And to Judi who hand walked her from pasture to her stall - about a 45 minute walk with baby steps. The vet will see her tomorrow. Meanwhile we will do all we can to help her get better, although EPM is expensive to treat. But our Kaye is not ready to cross the Rainbow Bridge yet. So keep us in your thoughts and prayers. If you are able, and want to contribute to her medical care, there are great ways to donate:
