Large animal emergencies happen... Are you prepared?

Gustavus Veterinary Services provides emergency care for our current large animal clients when life-threatening situations happen.

✔️Ambulatory Care — We come to you when on-farm treatment is needed.
✔️Haul-In Care — Our facility is available when your animal can be safely transported for evaluation and treatment.

Don’t wait for an emergency to establish livestock or equine veterinary care. Routine visits and annual exams help ensure you’re an established client when you need us most. Annual farm visits or herd exams are required to maintain your VCPR, or Veterinary-Client-Patient Relationship, or renewed by doctor discretion. Talk to your regular veterinarian to ensure that you will be provided after-hours and emergency care when needed.

💥Trumbull County Fair 2026💥

We have committed to our 5th year as fair veterinarian! This year will come with a few changes and reminders:

- We will not be camping on premises. Daily animal health checks will be made every morning and as needed.

- We will be collecting urine samples of grand and reserve champions for market lambs, goats, pigs and beef steers.

- Emergency services will still be available! There is a designated senior fair board member to also help with communication purposes. You can go to the fair office or find a fair board member to locate Mike McCaslin.

- As always, if another veterinarian is involved in the care of your animal on the grounds, we have to be notified prior to any treatment being started.

- Please know that our phone system has changed. We no longer see text messages after hours. We will see them when we return to regular business hours. Please do not text us in an emergency!

- No new rules have been made from the Ohio Dept. of Ag, but there will be changes in 2027. The requirement for next year's fair will be that ALL cattle and swine have to be identified with electronic ID (RFID). This does not just apply to 4H/Jr Fair market projects but also to breeding animals, open class, petting zoo, demonstration exhibits, etc. Animals won’t be permitted to stay on the fairgrounds without coming into compliance with this ID requirement. Sheep and goats follow the Scrapies program guidelines. If you need information on how to get RFID tags for your animals, please let us know.

We had such a wonderful time celebrating with all of you, and we’re excited to do it again!
