Riding Journey has openings for training!

My goal when working with horses is to create a relaxed, balanced equine partner working to set them up for success in the world of people. My approach is a Horse Focused one, listening to the horse and allowing space for them to be themselves while gaining the skills and confidence needed under saddle and at competitions.

I enjoy starting youngsters, and not so youngsters and giving them a foundation that is built on relaxed work and alleviating unnecessary stress, while setting them up for success.

My Rebalancing work relies on the skills I have learned over the years in biomechanics, hoof care, nutrition, fitness, and as a Reiki Master to unwind what is not working for the horse and slowly build it back up in a way that is sustainable for the horse and allowing them to be more comfortable in their body.

Endurance conditioning can get your horse ready for next season. Whether it is long slow distance to build up their base or to take them to the next level. I have access to miles of trails and hills to get them strong and fit.

I began honing my skills with a chestnut thoroughbred mare who set the stage to challenge and direct me on this path. I have worked to create a 100 mile, including Tevis and Decade Team horse, as well as a competitive.90s jumper in an Akhal-teke Arab that I started from the ground up. I have dabbled in eventing and dressage as well as actively competing in endurance and jumpers. I am also a Hoof Care Provider and Reiki Master.

Thank goodness for the difficult horses.

The ones who don’t let us cheat..

The ones who force us to be better horse people and better stewards..

The ‘quirky’ ones who force us to listen..

The ones who force us to problem solve..

The ones who show us the reality behind the curtain..

The ones you didn’t necessarily want, but most definitely needed..

These are the horses who push us out of our comfort zones and turn us into great horse people- who listen to their horses and prioritize what the HORSE needs over our desires.

Missy has been here a year.

I am very grateful to be able to work with this fabulous mare. She has all the training, yet when I met her, her body wasn’t in a place to access it. She would set her head instead of stretching through her top line, because she physically could not stretch and lift through her thoracic sling at that time. Her shoulder were so stiff and muscle bound, for most likely a number of reasons. She had been out to pasture for a while and her feet. She had pancakes. Luckily as part of her rehab I get to do all the fun and fancy things to her feet. Does she have good feet? No, they are “thoroughbred feet”, the right front turns out and she has no heels. At least her toes are shorter now. She gets fancy glue ons with 3D printed wedge pads. The first time I put back shoes on her was a game changer for her canter. She had hooks in her mouth and the vet took care of those. She gets regular bodywork with Lori Price to keep her happy, which was super important in the beginning to unwind her compensation patterns. She gets supplements to help her gut and attempt to grow better hooves.
And while all of that was going on I was slowly asking her to learn to move again. It is a slow process. Suddenly she went from just trying to stretch to lifting her back and stretching through her neck. Now we are working on slowly building her carrying strength behind.

The mare is happy in work and is truly wonderful to work with.
