Emma Lou's Kitchen

Emma Lou's Kitchen Fresh, completely balanced,human-grade quality, all natural food for your dog. Emma Lou's Kitchen is truly a labor of love. She began feeding Emma with it.

Shortly after Kristen Zang adopted her puppy Emma, she received jarring news. Emma was diagnosed with Distemper, a condition that leaves most dogs affected by it having to be put to sleep. Determined to save Emma, Kristen set out to learn everything she could about dog nutrition and the pet food industry. This was around the same time that many of the pet food companies were issuing recalls. Zang

consulted veterinarians, nutritionists and other specialists while simultaneously studying the diets of most dogs. She learned that most of what was being sold at pet stores was not healthy for them. Through her research, Kristen developed homemade dog food (which is actually people food) that was compliant with the AAFCO’s recommended dietary balance among proteins, vitamins, fats and micronutrients. Thanks to the health benefits of Kristen’s creation, all signs of Distemper quickly disappeared. Emma is now getting ready to party down at her Sweet 16! After experiencing the joy of Emma’s restoration to excellent health, Kristen wanted to share these benefits with other dog owners. What began as a small operation out of her home is now a rapidly growing company serving many satisfied and steadily returning customers. She now works in a commercial kitchen to accommodate the volume of food she’s producing, and yet maintains her personal touch by cooking everything from scratch. Kristen hopes to continue to grow Emmalou’s Kitchen exponentially and be able to share the love with as many dogs as possible.

Fireworks Are Fun (For Us)… Not So Much for Our Dogs 🎆🐾
We get a lot of questions this time of year about how to help dogs feel safe during fireworks, so here are a few things that can really make a difference:
✨ Exercise early in the day – A tired dog is a calmer dog. A good walk or playtime helps burn off nervous energy.
✨ Create a quiet space – Pick a cozy room, shut the blinds, turn on some calming music or the TV, and give them their bed or crate to retreat to.
✨ Keep them indoors – Before the noise starts, bring them in and make sure all gates and doors are locked up.
✨ Try natural calming tools – Some dogs do well with calming chews, a snug anxiety vest, or just having you nearby.
✨ Check their tags – If your dog gets startled and bolts, a current ID tag or microchip could bring them home safely.
From all of us at Emma Lou’s Kitchen, we hope you and your pups have a safe and peaceful holiday. 💛

This sweet boy was rescued by his amazing parents many moons ago when he was just a pup 🐶 he went from street dog to living the life of luxury. Now at approximately 17 years old, Jerry is a thriving, happy and incredibly handsome senior guy. We hope his family have many more years with him. We ♥️ you, Jerry Garcia!

Here is Jerry’s moms full testimonial 👇

“Jerry Garcia has been thriving on Emma Lou’s Homemade Kitchen food since 2010-2011, back when they had a location in Beverly Hills. As former street dog parents, we searched for the best food to help Jerry transition into a healthy, well-loved indoor dog—and Emma Lou’s exceeded our expectations. Their commitment to quality, fresh ingredients, and balanced nutrition has kept Jerry’s weight stable, his coat shiny, and his health in check. Now 16-18 years old, Jerry is blind and deaf but still playful, prancing on his walks and enjoying life. We credit Emma Lou’s food for his longevity and good health. As a fellow Oregonian, I also love that Emma Lou’s has roots in my home state. Thank you, Kristen and the entire Emma Lou’s team, for making exceptional dog food!”

As we “spring forward” into daylight saving time, remember that pets may struggle with the time change. If your pet eats at a specific time, try adjusting their meal times in 15-minute increments over 3-4 days. This can help reduce stress and confusion. 🐶 🥘 🕰️

Research indicates a noticeable spike in vet visits around Thanksgiving, primarily due to incidents where pets ingest food items they shouldn’t during holiday gatherings, with estimates suggesting that roughly 1 in 6 dog owners may need to take their pet to the vet after Thanksgiving due to such issues.
