UPDATE: Robin is home! She still needs oxygen and time to recover, but she’s home!
The sequel…
As Robin navigates the rollercoaster of cancer, she had 5 intense days of radiation that ended December 29th. The cancer is spreading towards her sacrum and her spinal cord so we hope the radiation will either stop or slow that movement. She also started a new chemo on December 23rd. We are excited because this chemo targets the specific gene mutation that caused this cancer. It feels like we are targeting the source, not just the side effect. Due to both the radiation and chemo, we knew she would be exhausted…and she was! We also knew one of the side effects of the chemo was reduced oxygen levels so we were watching that. On New Years Day her oxygen levels started to plummet. We tried to address the situation, but she did not improve enough so we were headed to the ED on Sunday the 2nd. We were certain the oxygen levels were due to chemo, but we were wrong. It was covid. Robin was admitted into the ICU and is currently still there getting the support she needs to recover. The prognosis was grim but she turned the corner yesterday and we are praying for continued improvement.
I had Dispatch Health come to the house on the 3rd to test Peggy and she tested positive. She has a nasty cough and congestion but she is at home and improving. I believe she is at the end of her covid journey.
Surprisingly, I tested negative with an at home rapid test. I took a PCR test on Tuesday and I am waiting for the results.
So, what does this mean for grooming? I only have very little congestion so I feel strong and clear headed. Physically, I feel as though I can groom.
This week I have been contacting clients to see if they want to keep or reschedule their appointment. It has been a 50/50 split.
I will contact Saturdays clients tomorrow.
If my PCR test comes back negative, I will go back to business as usual. If it is positive, I will also contact next week’s clients. Please know you always have the right to reschedule.
Hopefully you now understand why my availability is so limited and why I am encouraging you to investigate other groomer options. Again, I will do my best to keep the shop open on a reduced schedule.
We do not need anything at this time other than prayers for recovery. We also have many family, friends, and church family who are coping with covid. They could use your uplifting prayers as well.
EDIT: I just realized that I have painted a picture of Robin as a cancer and covid patient, but she is so much more. She is an amazing human being. She is the assistant pastor at Grace Community Church here in Falcon. Robin is also a Falcon Fire Department Chaplain. She is loved by so many and I am thankful because that means she is being prayed for by so many.
