Companions of Heart

In ancient days, by fire's light,
Our bonds with beasts began to write.
From wild to tame, a friendship born,
In fields of dusk, in breaks of morn.

First came the dog, with loyal eyes,
A guardian under starlit skies.
With wagging tail and playful bark,
They left their paw prints on our heart.

Cats, with grace, slipped into place,
Mystery woven in their chase.
Soft purrs that soothe, their silent prowl,
A comfort found in every meow.

Birds with songs that fill the air,
Their melodies a whispered prayer.
Feathers bright, a flash of light,
They bring the skies within our sight.

Horses, strong with spirits free,
They carry us through history.
In fields they gallop, wild and grand,
They teach us strength, they understand.

Rabbits, hamsters, creatures small,
They show us joy in lives so small.
Their playful nibbles, gentle hops,
A world of wonder in our laps.

Reptiles, fish in tanks they glide,
A quiet peace in waters wide.
With scales and fins, they mesmerize,
A tranquil world before our eyes.

Each pet we choose, a life we share,
With every fur, with every hair.
They teach us love, they teach us care,
A bond that grows beyond compare.

In troubled times, their presence near,
They chase away our darkest fear.
With wag of tail or gentle purr,
In silent ways, our hearts they stir.

They greet us at the door each day,
In their own special, loving way.
Their simple joy, their pure delight,
Transforms our lives, both day and night.

They teach us patience, kindness, grace,
In every look, in every face.
Our pets, companions, friends so true,
They shape our hearts, our world renew.

So here's to pets, our chosen kin,
Whose love and trust we always win.
In their revolution, quiet and grand,

It's too cold to stay out long, but Becky and I love our little post walk/potty winter warmup station! We dry off her piggies and enjoy a little treat while peering out into the cold abyss! Of course belly rubs are always part of the deal before I tuck her in for a nap!

The beginning of the week we were embracing a whole bunch of snow, holding onto a few winter festive vibes with a slightly off tune whistle walk. Hard to believe all that snow is long gone and we had two days in the 50's singin' Here Comes Sunshine before .... drumroll.... 64 mile per hour winds. Now, i'm stuck with my grade school chorus jingle bopping in my head.... "...and windy has stormy eyes..." 🎶 Good thing these two live me almost as much as I love them!
