🌞🐾 How Hot Is TOO Hot for Pets? 🐾🌞

As temperatures rise, it’s important to remember that our pets can overheat much faster than we do.

☀️ Generally speaking:
• Below 70°F → Usually safe for most pets
• 70–80°F → Use caution during exercise
• 80–90°F → Increased risk for overheating, especially for puppies, senior pets, flat-faced breeds, and overweight pets
• Above 90°F → Dangerous conditions can develop quickly

🐶 Hot pavement can also burn paws!
If the pavement is too hot for your hand for 7 seconds, it’s too hot for your pet’s feet.

🚨 Signs of heat exhaustion or heatstroke include:
• Excessive panting
• Drooling
• Weakness or stumbling
• Vomiting or diarrhea
• Bright red gums
• Collapse

💧 Summer safety tips:
✔️ Always provide fresh water
✔️ Walk pets early morning or late evening
✔️ Avoid strenuous exercise in the heat
✔️ Never leave pets in parked cars — even for a minute
✔️ Make sure outdoor pets have shade and ventilation

Some pets are especially sensitive to heat, including Bulldogs, Pugs, Persian cats, senior pets, and pets with heart or respiratory disease.

If you think your pet may be overheating, move them to a cool area immediately and contact your veterinarian right away.

Stay safe and enjoy the summer responsibly! ☀️❤️🐾

Reverse sneezing in dogs is a fairly common event where a dog suddenly makes rapid “snorting” or “honking” sounds while pulling air inward through the nose. It can look alarming, but in many cases it’s harmless and short-lived.

What reverse sneezing looks like:
A dog having a reverse sneezing episode may:
-Stand still with elbows spread apart
-Extend the neck
-Make repeated snorting, gagging, or honking sounds
-Rapidly inhale through the nose
-Appear briefly distressed
Episodes usually last from a few seconds to about a minute.

What causes it?
Reverse sneezing happens when the throat area behind the nose (the nasopharynx) becomes irritated or spasms.

Common triggers include:
-Allergies or environmental irritants
-Dust, pollen, perfumes, smoke, or cleaners
-Excitement or pulling on a leash
-Eating or drinking too quickly
-Post-nasal drip
-Mild respiratory irritation
Small and flat-faced breeds may experience it more often.

Is it dangerous?
Most occasional reverse sneezing is not dangerous.

Many episodes stop on their own, but you can try:
-Staying calm
-Gently massaging the throat
-Briefly covering the nostrils for 1–2 seconds to encourage swallowing
-Offering a small sip of water afterward
