Fancy Cats & Dogs is a nonprofit organization run by volunteers, with the purpose of rehoming cats that need it. A lot of these cats have been through hard times, so we do our best to make sure to match up every cat with the right human(s) for them. We are a 501(c)(3) charity and our money comes from donations so anything that you can do to help is immensely appreciated (United Way #98772)

Founded in 1997 by Cathy Awad, Fancy Cats now has four PetSmart Adoption Centers and 150+ volunteers. Our mission is to end needless euthanasia at shelters in the National Capital area by rescuing and finding suitable lifetime homes for our cats & dogs, promoting spaying and neutering, and educating the public on responsible pet ownership. Since our inception in 1997, we have found loving homes for 15,000+ cats. 👻 Meet Boo Boo — the happiest little pup with the biggest heart! 👻

This outgoing girl loves wrestling with her sister Baby, chasing toys, and snuggling up for cuddle time. 🐶💕 She and her 5 littermates came from a rural VA shelter, and now she’s ready to find her forever family!

Boo Boo is great with dogs, cats, and kids, and would love a home with another playful pup. With her boxer dad and lab mom, she’s the perfect mix of silly + sweet. 🐾✨

💔🐾 Meet Drax, a sweet boy who has been through so much this year.

Drax was originally adopted years ago, but when his adopter passed away, friends stepped in to cover his re-adoption fee so he could have another chance at a forever home. His foster mom, who loved him dearly, couldn’t resist making him part of her family. ❤️

Unfortunately, poor Drax has faced nonstop medical challenges. This summer alone, he endured two major dental procedures for severe stomatitis, leaving his mom with over $5,000 in vet bills. While his mouth is finally healing and he’s feeling better 🦷✨, new health concerns have surfaced — including possible kidney disease and an ear polyp that may require surgery.

His foster-turned-forever mom is doing everything she can to give Drax the happy, healthy life he deserves, but she can’t do it alone.

Vince- tuxedo, 9 yo, male, neutered- Surrendered by owner due to not being able to afford care. He is very sweet and is comfortable being held.

Tomato- orange, 10 yo, male, neutered - Very friendly guy that loves pets.

Eli - black lab mix, 3 yo, 68 lbs - Goofy, active lab spirit that loves car rides. He has been working on crate training (doing great) and is good with other dogs. He would probably prefer an active buddy.

Unnamed Female -brown/white mix, 3yo, 50lbs - Arrived at shelter as a stray on 9/12. Gorgeous girl who is front and center to greet you at her kennel with happy tail wags.

Maseriti - shepherd mix, 2yo, 50 lbs - This handsome guy arrived at the shelter as a stray on 9/3 with his lookalike sibling. He is friendly and loves people.

This 3-year-old, 30-pound pup is ready to find his furever family. 💕

Jay is a social guy who gets along with both dogs and cats in his foster home. He loves playing with his furry siblings but is always respectful of their space. 🐾

He’s happiest on long walks (though he might tug if a squirrel crosses his path 🐿️), and at home he’s calm, well-behaved, and already fully potty trained. Jay knows “sit,” understands what’s safe to chew, and is super food-motivated—making training a breeze! 🍃

Independent yet affectionate, Jay entertains himself but also loves following his foster mom around the house or hanging out next to his foster dad. As he settles in, his sweet, goofy personality is shining through more each day.

LYCHEE NEEDS A FOSTER 🌸 Lychee is the total package—sweet, affectionate, and just the right mix of playful and cuddly. She greets you with gentle hugs and kisses, and that one floppy ear is her signature “did you call me?” look.

Still a puppy, Lychee has happy energy for playtime but is equally happy curling up on the couch for Netflix and snuggles. She loves tug-of-war, squeaky toys, and romping with her foster brother—she’d make an amazing playmate for another young dog. She even met a cat and was curious but gentle, so with slow introductions she could do well in a cat-friendly home.

This smart girl is crate trained, housebroken, and walks nicely on leash. She’s also very polite when taking treats. Lychee loves being near her people, whether she’s sunbathing in the yard, lounging by your side, or relaxing in her kennel for some alone time.

She can be shy at first and needs a moment to feel safe, but once she does—she’s all about the snuggles and love. Because she needs slow introductions to kids, Lychee is looking for a home without young children.

Positively purrfect Purrl may have limited vision, but it sure doesn’t slow her down! She uses her hearing and smell to help her navigate the world and seek out adventure! She loves chasing balls and her toy micey that rattle. She’s very snuggly and aptly named for her loud purrs!

Purrl will follow you around and climb up onto your lap or feet or arms…where ever she can find a spot to cuddle up and love you! She is a happy and joyful kitten with a smile on her teddy bear like face and even has an adorable smiley face on her tummy (which she loves to have rubbed while she naps on you!)

Purrl was born with very small eyes and a deformity in her eyelids that roll her fur into them. Purrl has had the first of two surgeries to correct the rolled eyelids and try to open up her vision! It is hard to tell at this time what kind of sight she has, but it does seem that she can at least see a little bit! We are looking for a special person to give this determined and loving kitten her forever home!

Meet Chloe and her 3 babies, all ready for their forever homes!

Chloe is a sweet and loving dog, that is always by your side. She is loyal and faithful, and a great companion. Chloe is getting more confident around people. She has the best temperament and is the sweetest dog. Her long tail is always wagging, she’s so happy all the time. Loves being a lap dog!

Pumpkin is very playful, fun and sweet. He WILL cuddle with you. He is ready for anything and ready for a great and loving home. Pumpkin is adventurous and fun loving and is always up for an adventure. He loves playing and up for any action and activiy with his siblings.

Daisy is cute and fluffy. She is affectionate and will just lay and snuggle with you. Daisy is a sweet loving girl and is so content just cuddling and being held. She’s a great listener and super sweet. She is ready to go always following your lead.

Sparkle is so calm and lovable, she loves to be carried and cuddle with you. Sparkle is so fun and full of life. She will make a great addition to any family. She loves playing and running around with her mom and siblings.

URGENT: New foster home needed for Shiloh ASAP!

Shiloh is a big, lovable teddy bear with soulful eyes and a gentle heart. At 80 pounds, this 2-year-old hunk of love has mastered the art of being both strong and sweet. His foster can no longer keep him and we need somewhere for him to go ASAP!! Even a temporary foster would be helpful. Call Cathy at (703) 674-9463 if you can help!

Shiloh knows “sit” and “down,” proving just how smart and eager-to-please he is. Attentive and affectionate, Shiloh is happiest when he’s close to his people—soaking up snuggles, giving love back tenfold, or just relaxing on the porch with his people.

Shiloh did well meeting other dogs and shows no signs of resource guarding. He would be fine as a solo dog or with another big mellow dog. He is crate trained, house trained, and good on a leash. He does well when left alone and isn’t destructive and doesn’t bark or whine.

He has a strong pretty drive, so a home with no small animals is needed.

Want to get involved with rescue work but have limited hours in the month to volunteer? Our Springfield Petsmart adoption center has the perfect opportunity for you! Cat Care Volunteers are responsible for feeding and tidying up the cages for the cats at the adoption center. Best of all, Cat Care volunteers get to cuddle and play with the cats, which is the highlight of the cats' days.

Shifts are approximately 2 hours long, and commitment of 2-4 times per month is preferred. Volunteers can sign up for set weekly shifts (mornings or evenings available), or backfill as needed.

📣 Help us help Eli! 🙏

Eli is a ~3 year old, 60 lbs., handsome and shiny boy. He was rescued from a county shelter with extremely high euthanasia rates, and is currently with a temp foster (who happens to be a trainer). Eli is learning to like the crate and working on commands. He is good with dogs, social with people, and rides great in the car!
