Happy Ginger Cat Appreciation Day!

🧡 Orange cats: proof that you don’t need a single brain cell to be absolutely fabulous. 🧡

Orange cats are affectionate, ridiculous, dramatic, and somehow always involved in whatever you’re doing—even when “whatever you’re doing” is trying to use the bathroom alone.

They will:
🍊 Yell at you for food 12 minutes before dinner
🍊 Sprint through the house for absolutely no reason
🍊 Fall off the couch and act like it was intentional
🍊 Sit directly on the thing you need
🍊 Stare at a wall like they’ve discovered the meaning of life
🍊 Give you one tiny brain cell… and then immediately lose it

But honestly? We wouldn’t have it any other way. 🧡

Our Adoption Center & Trails Home Farm are meant to be first stops, not forever homes. But right now, too many dogs have been waiting there for weeks. Dogs thrive in homes, not kennels — and after 2 weeks, it’s time to get them out. Starting this Tuesday and every Tuesday after, we’re spotlighting dogs who urgently need adopters or fosters NOW. These are our longest residents. They’re safe, loved, and ready… but nothing replaces a family.

1 foster/adopter = 2 lives saved. When you foster or adopt a Priority Pack dog, you don’t just change their life — you open a kennel for a shelter dog facing euthanasia. We can’t rescue more until these dogs move out. Please consider fostering or adopting TODAY. And share this post everywhere. Time is ticking for dogs in shelters, and these 6 are out of time at ours. 1) Rosemarie/60lbs/4 years/spayed. Good with kids and dogs! She loves to curl up on the couch and get butt scratches.

2)Luna/55lbs/4 years/spayed. Good with kids 10+. Needs to be the only pet in the home. Luna loves snuggles and walks.

3)Betty Davis/40lbs/1 years/spayed. She hasn’t met kids yet. She needs to be the only pet in the home.

4)Maya/42lbs/3 years/spayed. Loves to socialize with dogs but prefers to be the only pet in the home. She hasn’t met kids yet but has loved everyone she has met. She was scared of cats and would do best with a dog social cat.

5)Kai/80lbs/5 years/Neutered. Good with kids 10+. Loves to socialize with other dogs but prefers to be the only pet in the home.

6)Patrick/55lbs/4 years/ Neutered. Good with kids 14+. Patrick would prefer to be the only pet in the home.

7)Flounder/55lbs/2 years/Neutered. We haven’t seen him with kids but he may knock over younger kids with his excitement. Flounder would do best as the only pet in the home.

Welcome Macee and her lovely litter of 7!

Macee is a dream dog... Affectionate to the point of leaning in for a hug, house trained, devoted mama, calm and sweet, dog friendly, kid friendly (in fact she chose her foster 'sister' first thing to be her special human). She's doing wonderfully raising her very sweet puppies whose eyes are just now opening. We are so lucky you all have helped us save this family! We are participating in CLEAR THE SHELTERS!!!!! We have 5 dogs attending the event this weekend in Fairfax and three who will be at the farm!!! Attending the open hours this weekend will be Ed, Maya, Patrick, Betty Davis, and Luna. (These are in order of the pictures!) Not attending will be Kai, Tammy, and Joy. Please join us in welcoming the beautiful Rebecca and her 7 surviving puppies to the Homeward Trails fold!

This stunning girl has been through it. Rebecca was a stray, very pregnant and VERY underweight. Days after being brought into a rural shelter, she delivered a litter of 11 only to lose 4 within just a few days. That's a lot of mouths to feed when you are stressed in a shelter and already emaciated. Yet her resolve is as mighty as her beauty and Rebecca has a thriving litter of 7 now that she's safe in a wonderful foster home and eating 8 cans of food a day! Even still, she's quite skinny, as it's really tough to gain weight while nursing so many pups!

Please help us support this precious mama and her 'lil bairns! They are approaching time to get their first of three sets of vaccines and will be starting the weaning process soon!

She lost three of her babies -- and the future of the seven survivors depends on us.
