I’m starting classes at heartland kennels!

Does your dog bark, lunge, whine, or become over stimulated when around other dogs and/or people? Then this may be the class for you! This class is for dogs that have excitement based reactivity, fear based reactivity, and early DNA Based reactivity! If you are interested please reach out to Heartland Kennels to get signed up!

Please be aware that if you are not a current training client your dog will be subject to an evaluation to ensure that we don’t set your dog up for failure! If during the evaluation I come to the conclusion your dog is not suitable for the class, I do offer in home sessions and can offer you that instead!

This video demonstrates cooperative care training at home, which mirrors the procedure at the vet's office. In non-emergency situations, if he is lying on his side, it indicates that he is comfortable with us proceeding with necessary treatments. When he sits up, we cease any handling until he voluntarily lies down again. In this particular video, I applied gauze to his pad after he sat up to maintain cleanliness and prevent contamination before wrapping. I believe this approach is crucial for all dogs, especially for dogs like Blizzard, who can be challenging to manage during treatment.

Romeo may have more work to do but he has come such a long way!

04/23/2024

When I met Romeo he did not know how to properly walk on a lead and would drag anyone walking him to where he wanted to go. So I started working on using a slip lead on him to teach him the invisible line concept paired with engagement and ended up with this beautiful loose lead heel with lots of engagement!

Kovu has come a long way since we started working with him!

When Kovu came to us he was quite insecure and nervous which caused him to want to have control over every situation that seemed out of control to him such as dogs running fast and playing together. To combat this we worked on impulse control and confidence building as seen in this video!

An implied stay can be a wonderful tool to use to teach impulse control and also to use when the command stay has been accidentally devalued or if it was conditioned improperly! This way we can avoid having to use a different word or counterconditioning the command as seen here in this video of Kovu!

When Kovu came to us he had an unreliable recall, and would not come when over threshold and when focused on something. To combat this we began working on recall on a leash to enforce the command no matter the circumstances, and now he can be recalled even when focused on something high value such as a squirrel as shown in this video!
