Fairchild Air Force Base Veterinary Clinic is professionally staffed by Army Veterinary Corps personnel with the primary mission of providing complete veterinary care for all government owned animals. Our staff understands how important your pet is to you and with that in mind, we also offer many types of routine care services for the pets of military families. All pets living on post must be regi

stered with the Vet Clinic upon arrival, as well as be current on their Rabies Vaccine and have a microchip. On-Post Housing may limit the number and breed of pets that can live in on-post housing. On-Post Housing also requires that pets living on base be registered/licensed through Spokane County SCRAPS to adhere to State Requirements. Contact on-post housing for more information. Good Morning Team Fairchild-

As colder weather approaches, The American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) has several tips on keeping pets safe.

Know your pet's cold tolerance:
Some pets are more comfortable in cold weather than others, and seniors, pets with arthritis, and pets with short legs are more sensitive to cold.

Provide shelter:
If you can't keep your pet inside, provide a warm, solid shelter with a floor off the ground and thick, dry bedding.

Protect paws:
Check your pet's paws for cracks, bleeding, or ice accumulation. Clean their feet of salt, antifreeze, or other deicing substances. You can also use pet-friendly deicing salts to minimize paw irritation.

Watch for hypothermia:
Signs of hypothermia include shivering, weakness, and moving slower than normal. If you suspect your pet has hypothermia, bring them inside immediately and call your vet.

Keep pets away from toxic substances:
Chocolate, sweets, baked goods, table scraps, onions, raisins, grapes, and unbaked yeast dough can be toxic to pets.

Restraint pets in vehicles:
Use a safety harness, crate, or carrier to keep your pet safe in the car.

Antifreeze is highly toxic to pets and can be fatal, even in small amounts. If you suspect your pet has ingested antifreeze, you should seek immediate veterinary care.
