The AFFECT farmer training program is a free program designed to train, and ensure the success of, the next generation of Interior farmers. This summer program includes classroom lessons, hands-on farm visits with local farmers, and business mentorship designed to demonstrate how profitable and rewarding farming the Interior can truly be.
There will be classes and farm visits on Monday evenings 6-8pm and potentially some other opportunities during the week. Students that attend 80% of classes will receive a travel stipend and a completion certificate Students that attend at least 50% of classes will receive a smaller stipend and a certificate . Transportation will be offered for farm visits.
Topics include farm planning, business training, soil health, fertilizer and composting, cold storage, farm equipment, irrigation, hydroponics, w**d management, and field prep.
This is a program of the Fairbanks Soil and Water Conservation District.
