Performance Testing
Dogs must demonstrate innate hunting ability and trainability through standardized JGHV (Jagdgebrauchshundverband) tests:
• VJP (Verbands-Jugendprüfung): A spring puppy test for natural ability (tracking, nose, search, pointing, cooperation). A minimum score, typically 65, and a "Sufficient" rating in tracking are required.

The Verein Deutsch-Drahthaar (VDD) maintains some of the strictest dog breeding regulations in the world to preserve the Deutsch-Drahthaar (DD) as a versatile hunting dog. Unlike other registries, VDD breeding is performance-based, meaning dogs must "earn" the right to breed through rigorous testing and health screenings.
