Wild Summer Lights Opening Weekend is finally here! 🌸✨

Join us TONIGHT from 6:00 p.m - 10:00 p.m. as Mesker Park Zoo transforms into a glowing nighttime landscape, filled with beautiful lantern displays, delicious food trucks, and live music!

Hey zoo friends! 🐾

In order to make sure everybody is staying safe during this heat advisory, we wanted to share a few tips.

We recommend that you:
• Stay hydrated! Outside water bottles are permitted.
• Visit during the coolest hours of the day (morning hours)
• Wear loose & lightweight clothing.
• Cool off inside when you need to. The Gift Shop, Discovery Center, and Kley Building all have air conditioning.
• Let a Zoo Crew member know if you’re not feeling well.
• Visit weather.gov/safety/heat for more tips on how to stay safe.

Stacey and Alexia are the dedicated members of our Commissary Team, preparing diets for more than 700 animals across the Zoo every single day. From carefully measuring portions to meeting the unique nutritional needs of every species, their work plays an essential role in keeping our animals healthy and thriving.

While they may not always be in the spotlight, their attention to detail, teamwork, and dedication make a difference for every animal that calls Mesker Park Zoo home.💚

Meet Rachel and Kathrin, our Children's Forest keepers! 🐆🦜

As part of our Primate and Carnivore Team, Rachel and Kathrin care for the incredible animals of Children’s Forest, including Reba, our newest jaguar, our colobus monkey troop, cape porcupines, and Rojo the scarlet macaw.

Since Reba’s arrival at Mesker Park Zoo, Rachel and Kathrin have shown the patience, compassion, and dedication needed to help her settle into her new home. Their commitment lays the foundation for lifelong enrichment, voluntary veterinary care, and a brighter future for jaguar conservation.

JOIN US for Animal Enrichment Day!! From 10AM - 3PM today, you can participate in all kinds of family fun while learning how we keep our animals happy, healthy, and engaged! 🐾

Animal Enrichment gives our animals opportunities for physical activity, mental exercise, problem-solving and so much more. From toys and sensory experiences to habitat changes and food-based enrichment, there are lots of ways to keep our animals’ minds and bodies active!

Lemurs, Ocelots, and Red Pandas, oh my!🐾🐒🐸💚

As part of our Primate and Carnivore Team, Randi and Allison care for the unique and important species in the Discovery Center. From Tenzing and Cary, our red pandas, to Finn and Felix, our Coquerel’s sifakas, and our Francois’ langur troop featuring the beloved baby Fern, they help each animal thrive.

Their work also supports the conservation of species facing incredible challenges, including Panamanian golden frogs, which are extinct in the wild, and Puerto Rican crested toads, which are critically endangered.

From spots to stripes, they’ve got it covered! 🦒🦓

Katrina and Jacey care for some of the Zoo’s most iconic hoofed animals, including Clementine and Kijana, our giraffes, Lucy and Sudoku, our Grant’s zebras.

Teaching giraffes to voluntarily participate in health exams is no small task. Through patience, trust, and positive reinforcement, the ungulate team has helped Clementine and Kijana learn behaviors that allow our veterinary team to provide excellent care.

When your animal weighs 5,000+ pounds, trust is everything! 🦏💚

Lisa and Brandt are part of our Ungulate Team, caring for the animals of African Panorama and Bandhu, our greater one-horned rhinoceros.

Since arriving at Mesker Park Zoo in 2024, Bandhu has settled into his new home and built a strong relationship with his keepers through positive reinforcement training. From participating in voluntary behaviors to receiving a well-earned scratch or a freshly cleaned pool, Bandhu shows us that even the largest animals can build meaningful connections with the people who care for them.

Meet Chris and Tristan, two of the keepers who help our aquatic animals make a splash! 🐧🦦💧

From our Humboldt penguin colony, including our baby penguin Wensleydale, to our playful North American river otters, Chris and Tristan care for animals with big personalities and unique needs.

Keeping up with curious, energetic otters takes creativity and teamwork, while caring for penguins requires a close eye on their health and behaviors. Their dedication helps these amazing animals thrive and gives guests the chance to connect with wildlife from around the world.
