Mane Haven Equestrian Center is embarking on an ambitious transformation of its 48-acre property, marking a significant investment in both environmental sustainability and the well-being of its animals. In collaboration with New Harmony Trees and Shrubs, the center is set to plant 300 horse-safe trees across the property, enhancing privacy, providing shade, and supporting local wildlife.
Tom Guggenheim, a recognized expert in native trees, has taken the lead on this initiative, leveraging his extensive knowledge to guide the project from its inception.
Michael Daugherty, a key figure behind the project, shared his enthusiasm: "This hidden gem in Vanderburgh County is something we deeply value. Our goal is to preserve and elevate the land, ensuring it remains as serene as it is today. We’ve spared no expense in improving the property, which is evident in the contentment of our horses. With some of the greenest pastures in the Tri-State area, the addition of mature trees will only further enhance the landscape. Tom’s expertise has been invaluable to this endeavor, and his dedication to the environment is truly inspiring."
Genie Daugherty, President of Mane Haven, echoed the commitment to excellence, saying, "We will stop at nothing to ensure our horses receive the best care and have the most welcoming home possible."
As Vanderburgh County experiences rapid expansion, local wildlife habitats, particularly forests, have come under increasing strain. However, the ongoing efforts at Mane Haven reflect a refreshing commitment to nature.
Barn Manager Mikey Daugherty, with his characteristic humor, remarked, "I just work here," before adding, "But seriously, the bald eagles, along with the birds and horses, are going to love the new trees. We put everything we have into making this a place where the horses thrive. This is just one of many projects we've envisioned for this property, so stay tuned for more."
In a time when economic uncertainty and environmental challenges are prevalent, the investment in this property stands as a hopeful reminder of the positive impact that thoughtful, responsible development can have on both the land and its inhabitants.
