Meet Hank – A Gentle Soul Deserving of a Second Chance
Hank is a 5-year-old neutered male Plott Hound who has been through more than his fair share, yet remains one of the sweetest dogs we’ve ever had the pleasure of caring for.
He first came to our clinic in April 2023 with skin and weight issues. We started him on thyroid medication and Apoquel, and he showed early signs of improvement. Unfortunately, his previous owners were inconsistent with his treatments. In July 2024, they brought him in again—this time to discuss euthanasia, citing financial constraints. We couldn’t let that be the end of his story.
We provided treatments at no cost so they could see how much better Hank could feel with consistent care. When he returned for a recheck two weeks later, he had already lost weight and his skin had improved. We encouraged them to return again in another two weeks, but unfortunately, he wasn’t brought back. His next visit wasn’t until May 2025—again, for euthanasia.
We could not, in good conscience, put Hank to sleep for what appeared to be a treatable condition compounded by lack of care. With the owner’s consent, we had her sign him over to us.
Since then, Hank has been on thyroid medication, fluconazole, and Cytopoint—and the transformation in just one week has been incredible. His skin and weight are already improving. He is seriously the sweetest boy you’ll ever meet. He’s wonderful with other dogs, cats and kids. He is patient and calm for his medicated baths and grooming, and has a gentle, loving nature that everyone here has fallen in love with.
He currently lives at the clinic 24/7, but that’s no place for a dog long-term. Hank deserves a loving home—whether a foster or permanent family—where he can continue his care and thrive.
So far Hank has lost 26 pounds during his stay here!! Unfortunately his continued weight loss will take time, but with consistent thyroid medication and a stable routine, we are confident he will continue to improve. His full blood panel was normal other than his thyroid levels.
If you can help give Hank the loving home he deserves, or know someone who can, please reach out. This boy has so much love to give and is ready for his new chapter.
We will provide a year of Heartworm/Flea/Tick prevention for him with his adoption along with a 60 day supply of his other medications. His adoption fee is $50 to sure he goes to a good home and will be put in our Angel Fund to help other animals. Please call us at 706-650-1839 or email us ([email protected]) if you are interested in meeting him.
