This afternoon was an eventful one here at Eustis Veterinary Hospital! We came across a cat that was stuck in a tree in our backyard, who was being surrounded by a family of hawks. We tried for 30 minutes to get him down to no avail and ended up reaching out to our fire department for help! Of course they saved the day, climbed up there, and got him down! A huge shoutout to Eustis Fire Department for taking the time to come out and help this fur baby! We provided him some oxygen therapy, food, and he’s resting now. We are in the process of contacting the owner because thankfully he is microchipped and is a little ways away from home. We will keep you all updated!

Some of you know I use art for stress relief and some of you know I use humor for stress relief. But what you don’t know, is I would occasionally sketch cartoon depictions of diseases for my vet school newsletter. (I was very stressed in vet school) Today I went to a very fascinating CE lecture by Dr. Steven Jones sponsored by Boehringer-Ingelheim. It was a small room so he may have been annoyed by my scribbling. But Honestly, I was in awe of how much clinical insight he provided on a subject I deal with daily.

So in honor of this lecture I am giving away a free prize to the first person that can guess what Horrifying and Improperly named Disease my stress relief scribble represents.

Edit: I am declaring a combination winner!!
The answer I was looking for was not just heartworms but Heartworm Disease. ( Kathleen Hetherman) It is incorrectly named because the worms really spend all the time and do all the damage to the lungs and pulmonary arteries leading to pulmonary fibrosis ( Michelle Grogan) in as little as 3 months after being bitten by a mosquito. What that means is these nasty worms are causing permanent damage before they even show up positive on our blood tests!! Yuck

We had a great visit with Mrs. Claus!
