Today we want to give a huge shout-out to the team at To***co Valley Animal Shelter, Eureka for their incredible work helping 13 dogs rescued from a neglect situation.
Cases like these require countless hours of care, compassion, and dedication. We are grateful for the shelter staff, volunteers, and everyone involved in giving these dogs a second chance.
Mountain Vista Veterinary Services is proud to support the shelter and stands ready to help however we can as these dogs begin their journey toward recovery.
Thank you for being a voice for animals in need. ❤️🐾

☀️🐾 Warm Weather Warning for Pet Owners 🐾☀️

As temperatures rise, we're seeing more pets develop hot spots—painful, inflamed areas of skin that can appear and worsen very quickly.

What starts as excessive licking, scratching, or a small irritated spot can rapidly become an open, infected wound. During the warmer months, flies are attracted to these moist, infected areas and may lay eggs in the wound. The resulting maggots can cause severe tissue damage and become a serious medical emergency.

⚠️ Watch for:
• Excessive licking or chewing
• Red, moist, irritated skin
• Hair loss in patches
• Foul odor
• Swelling or discharge
• Flies lingering around a wound

Early treatment can prevent a minor skin issue from becoming a painful and potentially life-threatening problem.

If you notice any suspicious skin lesions, hot spots, or wounds on your pet, please have them evaluated as soon as possible. Regular grooming and routine skin checks are especially important during the summer months.

This week we’re celebrating the incredible veterinary assistants who help keep Mountain Vista Veterinary Services running every single day. From helping care for patients, comforting nervous pets and owners, assisting our doctors, answering questions, cleaning, organizing, and doing all the little things in between — they truly do it all.
We are so lucky to have such a hardworking and compassionate team!

🐾 Cuteness overload! 🐾

Visiting veterinarian Dr. Emma had her hands and lap full yesterday during these adorable 8-week puppy appointments! 😍

These fluffy Great Pyrenees pups brought all the cuddles, chaos, and cuteness to the clinic!

We love getting to be part of these early puppy milestones and helping start them off on the right paw 💙

🔥🐾 Wildfire Season Is Starting Early 🐾🔥

With prescribed burns already starting and air quality already becoming poor in some areas, it’s a good reminder that smoke can affect our pets too!

A few simple ways to help protect them:
💙 Keep pets indoors as much as possible during smoky conditions
💙 Limit outdoor exercise when air quality is poor
💙 Make sure they always have plenty of fresh water
💙 Watch for coughing, watery eyes, lethargy, or trouble breathing
💙 Have an emergency evacuation kit ready with food, medications, records, leashes, and carriers
💙 Make sure pets have updated ID tags and microchip information

Today we’re saying goodbye to Emma as she begins an exciting new chapter with Glacier Bank! 🏔️💼

Emma has been such a wonderful part of the Mountain Vista Veterinary Services team, and while we are definitely going to miss seeing her smiling face around the clinic, we are so excited for her and this new opportunity.
