Can you believe this cutie, coned, orange guy came to us with A HOLE IN HIS ARMPIT?? This stray boy was brough in by a volunteer trapper this week, originally just for a neuter. Once he was sedated, our team noticed he had a large puncture would in his armpit! They hopped into action quick and went to work cleaning the wound, stitching it up, and administering antibiotics. The individual that feeds him was unable to house him for his recovery but our staff refused to send him back with a large, infected wound in a sensitive area. One of our techs stepped up to be his caretaker for his recovery, and he's been staying in the clinic while he heals.

Have you noticed that here in Humboldt we are big fans of pitties? Did you also know they are the most common breed found in shelters?
Knowing this and seeing the success our previous free pit days have had, we are thrilled to announce that thanks to generous donations we were able to host another sponsored pit day! It was a huge success and it really takes the weight off pet parents that want to keep their pittie out of a shelter, but struggle to afford the cost of fixing them.

Humboldt Spay/Neuter Clinic generously received this donation from Corcoran Icon Properties - Humboldt County as part of their quarterly giving program, supporting local non-profits with a portion of their sales. This funding will help us subsidize dog spays/neuters so that we may keep providing low cost assistance to dog parents through the end of the year! Take a look at the life saving spa day for sweet Bruce! Bruce lives in the Guintoli area of Arcata and has been getting fed by someone that worked on Valley West. They think he was abandoned because he warmed up to pets a lot quicker than you'd expect of a stray cat. The caretaker noticed he didn't look to good and wanted to help him, they were just unsure of where to turn. After reaching out to Animal Control, they were referred to one of our volunteer cat trappers for help. Hearing of his condition we put him on our schedule immediately and were ready to help!
Bruce had multiple claws that were overgrown and digging into his paws, 90% of his fur was matted, and he overall was not looking good. It was all hands on deck during Bruce's spa day, at one point we had FOUR separate people working on him! At the beginning of his procedure, our vet tech was intubating him and one of his teeth fell out! Once sedated it was decided he needed to be almost entirely shaved due to the mats, his paw pads needed to be cleaned due to wounds from his nails growing into his skin, his rear end was deep cleaned due to the f***l matter collecting on his fur, and he got neutered. He was cozy and warm once he woke up and will be able to sit back and recover in a warm, safe area.
Bruce's treatment today was possible thanks to donations from our supporters! Our Feral Fund is not only used for spaying/neutering, but also helping treat and heal cats that don't have a home to turn to. If you'd like to contribute to cats like Bruce, donate below! Thank you!

October 12-18th is Vet Tech Appreciation Week, however, here at HSNC we celebrate ALL our staff this week! At HSNC we have 5 people that work treatment/surgery and 3 that handle the administrative side. Yep you read that right, we've got only 8 people that help run the entire clinic! Each one of our staff brings something special to the table, but ALL of them are smart, compassionate, and motivated workers we could not be without! Thank you to each and every one of you on our amazing team! Check out these cuties! We received updates from two different pairs of kitties that were adopted out of the clinic last year, Pinto and Pacer, and Peggy and Jack!
All four of them are absolutely thriving and are of course as spoiled as they can be! It warms our hearts to hear updates from cats that came from the clinic! Thank you wonderful pet parents!

We're still swooning over the pitties we had at last weeks Angel Day! They were all such special big babies and almost all of them lived out in the rural hills of SoHum! All their owners were so grateful for the opportunity to get them fixed, and we were thrilled to assist them in this process. We love our Humboldt Hill dogs!
