Such a hard post to write
Today we lost Flora and Fauna
These beautiful girls took a turn about a week ago. They started getting pretty lethargic, had struggled keeping down water and wasn't very responsive to head touches.
They had about 4 or 5 solid urates but no bowel movements since last month.
Didn't look like there was any blockage, but near her tail and cloaca it began to look sunken in.
They also dropped weight pretty quickly.
We offered another meal and though Flora was able to get it down after maybe 30 minutes, it just wasn't enough to help her.
We knew hatching them out came with no guarantees, but they deserved a chance at life.
A post from Northwest Reptiles sums it up nicely.
"You know what is a 🚩?
Wanting to kill an animal simply because it makes you uncomfortable.
Fear isn’t a personality trait.
Ignorance isn’t an excuse.
And cruelty isn’t bravery.
Snakes are quiet.
They’re shy.
They mind their business phenomenally well.
If a legless noodle existing peacefully makes you angry enough to talk about killing it… the problem isn’t the snake."
For those that followed them on this journey of life, we are also sorry for your loss. Thank you to all those with a kind soul to support the progress they did make in their short life time, even if you do not or did not like snakes.
