And then there were four! Buffy and Bolt have been joined at our Ojo Santa Fe Puppy Patch by their fellow Parvo-surviving siblings Buttons and Casper — and all four are now available for adoption! These heckin’ cute mini hound mixes are spayed/neutered, up to date on vaccines, microchipped and go home with six months of heartworm prevention. Apply on our website to schedule an appointment at the resort in Santa Fe 🐶

🎭 THE FINAL CURTAIN! 🎭

The last of our Santa Fe Opera pups have found their forever homes! And what a finale it was. ❤️

The cast of The Magic Flute missed their namesakes while out of town, so they made a special pilgrimage to our Ojo Santa Fe Puppy Patch for some puppy time with the Eugene Onegin pups. They were utterly undone by a chorus line of puppies and backstage chaos not even Mozart could not have composed.

And then, at last, the final little divas and divos from the Rodelinda and Onegin took their bows, the very last pups to leave the stage—official grand exits into forever homes!

A standing ovation to the casts and crews of these magnificent operas for gracing our Santa Fe Opera stage once again—and, even more wonderfully, for giving their time, talent, and hearts to help our little Opera Pets find their forever homes. You made this puppy production a spectacular success 🎭❤️🐾

Three days. Three Santa Fe stops. A whole bunch of puppies, kittens, and hopeful little faces. 💕🐾

Join our team this weekend as we take the adoption show on the road! We’ll be at PetSmart Friday, Toyota of Santa Fe Saturday, and Teca Tu Sunday—with bouncy puppies, adorable kittens, and some very special grown-up dogs hoping to meet their people.

Puppies + kittens: $50
Adult dogs: $25
Everyone is spayed/neutered and up to date on age-appropriate vaccines.

A couple of stars to watch for: Evee, a house-trained, beautifully behaved sweetpea who loves walks, cuddles, and doggy friends, and Tank, a 3-year-old pittie mix whose personal mission is to make every human his new best friend. 🥹

Congratulations to Animal Protection New Mexico (APNM) on this important report, and to The Santa Fe New Mexican for helping bring its findings into the conversation. We’re proud to be part of this conversation and hopeful that this is the beginning of the larger, statewide investment New Mexico needs.

New Mexico lacks a consolidated state authority that is responsible for domestic animal welfare, the report says.

A first for Española Humane, and a very big deal for one very special kitty. This is our little FIP fighter: Jolene has officially made Española Humane history as the first kitty we’ve ever treated for FIP. ❤️

And naturally, she didn’t arrive with just one plot twist. First came ringworm, which meant months of treatment and testing before we could finally declare that battle won. We breathed a collective sigh of relief…

…and then FIP reared its very ugly (and very fatal) head. Feline infectious peritonitis is caused by a mutation of a common feline coronavirus. Most cats exposed to feline coronavirus never develop FIP, but in some cats, the virus changes inside the body and triggers a devastating inflammatory disease. FIP can affect multiple organs—and in our girl’s case, she has developed neurological symptoms and changes to her eyes, signs that tell us this disease is affecting her in some pretty serious ways.

For decades, an FIP diagnosis was essentially a death sentence. There simply wasn’t a reliably accessible treatment. That has changed dramatically with antiviral medications that can stop the virus from replicating and allow many cats to recover. And now, for the first time, we can legally offer that treatment to one of our shelter kitties.

Jolene gave us something to celebrate almost immediately. She had been running a 104-degree fever for many weeks. Within hours of receiving her very first dose of treatment, her temperature finally dropped back to normal. 🥹

That doesn’t mean we’re out of the woods. Her treatment is underway, she is responding, and we are watching her very closely. The success rates are wonderfully encouraging—but FIP treatment is not 100% successful, particularly when neurological disease is involved.

So now we’re putting in a little order with the universe. Please send this girl every ounce of good juju, crossed fingers, lucky wishes, prayers, healing energy and tiny-cat magic you can spare.

Dig deep, little warrior. We’ve got the medicine. We’ve got the science. We’ve got the prayers. Jolene, this is your comeback story. Now go write the ending.

☔️ After such a long, dry summer, these recent rains have arrived like a blessing—soaking the parched earth, cooling the air, and giving everything a much needed drink of life.

And here at Española Humane, we’ve been having our own little monsoon: a downpour of adoptions and a flurry of forever homes! Here are just a few of the lucky ones. Thank you to everyone who adopted, fostered, volunteered, shared a post, made a donation or simply cheered these animals on. May the rain keep falling, the kennels keep emptying, and the forever homes keep coming. 🌧️

Buffy & Bolt are tiny tater tots who outran Parvo These two precious itsy bitsy mini hound mixes took on Parvo with their tireless teams of foster families and came out the other side with their tails wagging and their noses pointed for the future.

“Dolly, eyes golden and piercing. Lit like the sunset sky, they turn tears into diamonds, forever making everyone who passes her remember her face. This 8 year old phoenix embodies everything that you could possibly imagine her to be. She’s a great cat who’ll be a companion, protector, and loveable furball to anyone who might adopt her. Her brown and white fur gives her a striking appearance, like a little kitty who would get the paparazzi all over, she’ll be the next Taylor Swift of the cat world.
