“You don’t need science to be a good dog trainer.”
I’ve heard this from big-name trainers—and it’s a dangerous mindset.
Behavior analysis is literally the science of behavior.
It’s how we understand what dogs do, why they do it, and how to help them learn safely and humanely.
You can be skilled at applying techniques without knowing the science behind them. But when things get messy—when a dog isn’t responding or behavior worsens—you need more than instinct. You need analysis. You need understanding. You need science.
Being evidence-based isn’t cold or rigid—it’s compassionate. Because nothing is more ethical than doing what actually works.
