HVOC Fit Dog Hikes for February and March
Date: Saturday, February 7, 9:00 am Hike
Location: San Elijo Eagle Trail, Ridgeline Trailhead, San Marcos
Description: (Moderate) 2. 5 miles. This trail is dirt with one steep incline to reach the summit and enjoy the 360-spectacular views of panoramic vistas! Ocean, mountains and homes are seen from the lookout. There is a telescope and large area maps for viewing. The top has a rest area with seating and great spots for dog photos. It’s the same trail out and back. Special thanks to Donna R. for sharing this trial with us.
Directions and Parking:
162 San Elijo Road, San Marcos Across the street from Double Peak School. Meet in the parking lot near the bathrooms. If the parking lot is full you can park across the street.

Date and Time: Sunday, March 1 at 9:00 am
Location: Ramona Grasslands Preserves
Description: (Easy) 3.3-mile nice footing of a dirt trail loop featuring vernal pools, coastal sage, oak woodlands, grasslands and panoramic views with a variety of wildlife. There are bathrooms and picnic areas.
Directions: Ramona Grasslands Preserve, Highland Valley Road, Ramona, 92065
Day-Use Parking Fees: A $5/vehicle fee is charged for parking. The car parking is in a large dirt lot. Annual Parking Passes are available by contacting the County Parks Reservations Center at (858) 565-3600.

Date and Time: Sunday, March 29, at 9:00am
Location: Carmel Mountain Preserve Loop
Description: (Easy) 2.6-mile loop. There are some stairs leading through waist-high brush filled with sage, toyon and lemonade berries. The dirt terrain varies in both wide and narrow passages. The preserve features a viewpoint with wooden benches and diverse flora and fauna. There are bathrooms with free and easy parking.
Directions: 4770 Fairport Way, San Diego, CA 92130 Park in the “Ocean Air Community Park” parking lot, meet near the bathrooms.

As always, bring water for you and your dog. Stay six feet apart until calmly parallel pack walking. The HVOC hikes are free for you, your friends and family. For those earning the AKC Fit Dog titles I can help with the paperwork after the hike. In the event of pouring rain or thunderstorms hikes are cancelled. Otherwise, we always go.
