Erie’s First 24/7 Public Pet Microchip Scanner Station Installed at Erie Animal Network

Erie, PA – Erie Animal Network is proud to announce the installation of Erie’s first public-use pet microchip scanner station, now available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week at its location at 1158 W. 26th Street, Erie, PA.

This new community resource is designed to strengthen and enhance Erie Animal Network’s long-standing Lost and Found Pet Alert Program, which has been helping reunite pets with their families since the organization was founded in 2011.

For over 15 years, Erie Animal Network has utilized the power of social media—reaching more than 50,000 followers—to network lost and found pets throughout Erie County. Through community collaboration and rapid online sharing, thousands of pets have been safely returned home. The addition of a publicly accessible microchip scanner station marks a significant step forward in accelerating those reunions.

Microchipping is one of the most effective tools in pet recovery. However, until now, community members who found a stray animal often had to wait for a veterinary office or shelter to open to check for a chip.

The new scanner station changes that with the continued support of our 365 days per year volunteer run admin support services.

Located outside Erie Animal Network’s facility, the station is:
Accessible 24/7
Free for public use
Equipped with clear, step-by-step instructions
Designed for quick and safe scanning of found pets

This accessibility allows Good Samaritans to immediately check for a registered microchip, day or night, potentially reuniting pets with their families within minutes rather than days.

Erie Animal Network’s Lost and Found program has long been a lifeline for families experiencing the fear and heartbreak of a missing pet. By combining:

Real-time social media alerts
Community networking
On-the-ground support
And now, a 24/7 public microchip scanner

the organization continues to expand its impact and improve recovery outcomes across Erie County.

“This scanner station empowers the community,” said representatives of Erie Animal Network. “When someone finds a pet, they don’t have to wait. They can take immediate action. Every minute matters when a pet is lost, and this resource gives families a better chance at a fast reunion.”

Residents are encouraged to:

Ensure their pets are microchipped
Keep microchip registration information up to date
Continue utilizing Erie Animal Network’s social media platforms for lost and found alerts

With the installation of Erie’s first public-use pet microchip scanner station, Erie Animal Network reaffirms its commitment to keeping pets safe, families whole, and our community connected.
