Spaying or nuetering your dog is an important decision to make. If there are no intentions for a pet to raise any litters, the choice to spay or nueter is fairly certain to be a yes. There has been a lot of mixed information out there on the appropriate age to do so. AKC recently released a 10 year study weighing risk factors of altering popular dog breeds at different ages. For dachshunds, they found it is best for their long term health to wait until males are 6 months or older and females should be 12 months or older.
