We need your help! We have decided to give Luna’s puppies a temporary name while they’re with us for the first 8 weeks. Instead of calling them by collar color, we will give them each a name from a theme! What should Luna’s litter theme be? Theme will be announced after puppies are born.

🐾✨ WEEK 6 PUPDATE ✨🐾

Things are getting REAL around here! Luna is officially in Week 6 of pregnancy, and those tiny little puppy nuggets are growing FAST!

At this stage, the puppies are no longer tiny embryos, they officially look like little dogs now! Their toes, claws, whiskers, and paw pads are developing, and their coat colors are beginning to form. Even cooler? Their skeletons are starting to harden, which means in a couple weeks we’ll be able see to see roughly how many puppies are baking.

Puppy Development this week:
• Eyelids are formed
• Tiny ears are developing
• Pigment and fur color begin appearing
• Internal organs continue maturing
• Puppies are rapidly gaining size every single day!

Luna is exhibiting common pregnancy symptoms such as increased appetite, sleeping more, being extra clingy and her baby bump seems to grow a little more each day.

Fun fact: Puppies are still packed with fluid right now, so even though they’re growing quickly, they’re not quite “fluffy” yet! Over the next couple weeks, they’ll put on the bulk of their weight before making their big debut into the world.

Every week gets us closer to puppy breath, tiny squeaks, and wiggly tails.

🐾Puppy Science Friday! 🐾

Week 5 gestation ::

Did you know a dog’s uterus is shaped like a giant “Y”? (First picture) Unlike humans, female dogs have two long uterine horns where puppies grow side-by-side like little beans in a pod! Each puppy has its own tiny “room” complete with a placenta and fluid-filled sac to help them safely develop before birth.

At 5 weeks gestation (around day 35), things are getting EXTRA exciting! Puppies are no longer considered embryos — they’re officially fetuses now! Their tiny toes, ears, and whiskers are beginning to form and their little faces are starting to look more like puppies. Internal organs are developing rapidly while momma Luna’s belly is beginning to show a small “bump” as the puppies grow fast from here on out!

Right now, each puppy is still very tiny, about the size of a walnut, but over the next few weeks they’ll go through incredible growth spurts.

Nature is honestly amazing. From a Y-shaped uterus to perfectly formed puppies in just 63 days… dogs are magic.

Since we have pregnancy confirmation between Luna and Marshall, I thought it would be fun to offer an educational gestational weekly recap to share the magic of bringing new life into the world. Follow along until puppies arrive in 5 short weeks!

4 weeks gestation ::

Right now, these little pups are still in their “gummy bear” phase. Their eyes and ears are forming, their tiny spines and tails are taking shape, and little limb buds are growing into future paws. They’re only about the size of a walnut, but major development is happening fast! Fetuses are now able to be seen via ultrasound. (Pictured is Luna’s US)

At this stage, their organs are beginning to form, their heartbeat is present, and their facial features are just starting to come together. Mama might not be showing much yet, but behind the scenes, there’s a whole lot of magic happening.

The next few weeks will bring rapid growth, stronger features, and more defined puppies. For now, we’re soaking in this incredible early stage of life and getting things in order for a successful delivery.
