💙🐾🩷I’m sharing this a few days early, since 8/23 falls on a Saturday.
I’m simply using Bijou for the photo since he was truly born blind. He has no optic nerve connecting his 👁️ eye to his 🧠 brain. Which means he sees absolutely nothing. No shadows, light, etc.
Normally when we see blindness in dogs it’s a gradual thing, whether it’s cataracts, diabetes, old age, etc. and that doesn’t take away that they lost their site.
Animals like children are resilient and adapt to change very easily. I groom Lucky who’s gone blind due to diabetes and he had to learn his home, walks-& my Meeka girl who’s almost 17 years old and hers is due to cataracts from old age. I’m sure Jill has quite a few too!
In Bijous unique case though, he can’t miss something he’s never had. He romps around,
plays at daycare with fully sited dogs, and has to deal with me saying Bijou look here when I go to take a pic 🤦🏻♀️ I forget, but he follows my voice. He’s recently learned going down steps and the ramp from his Mommy’s bed and we are so proud of him for conquering that fear!
Thank you for taking the time to read and know your dogs are always safe and loved by us no matter if it’s their eyesight going to recovering from any kind of surgery. We go at their pace and comfort level, ALWAYS. 🩷🐾💙
