I’d like to share with the dog community something I discussed with a client today.

A concerned owner called because her dog ate an English pea/frozen pea/sweet pea that fell off her plate.

When googled, it appears that ‘sweet peas’are highly toxic to dogs ( and ppl too).

However, the confusion arises with the common names for these plants.

The peas we eat are NOT toxic to dogs. The scientific name is Pisum sativum
Of course, it’s recommended to feed sparingly and feed fresh frozen.

The so-called Sweet Pea Plant seen below is toxic to dogs. Its scientific name is Lathyrus odoratus. If dogs munch on those, neurological dysfunction may occur.

I hope this explanation might clear up any confusion, should that happen to you. 😊🐕❤️
