Just a few hours ago, they were found, just babies barely four weeks old, trembling and clinging to each other for comfort in a culvert pipe. The smallest one, a cinnamon brown pup, is fighting the hardest battle. His little body is covered in wounds, telling a story we can only begin to piece together. From what we can see, it’s likely a predator found their litter… and these three are the only ones who made it.

The odds were never in their favor. And yet—they’re safe and being cared for by our medical team.

Every breath they take feels like a quiet miracle… especially this time of year. Our own Easter miracle. 🙏💖

These are the animals that so often go unseen. The ones who don’t cry loud enough, who don’t have anyone looking for them. But this time, they were seen.

And we will not look away.

We will fight for them. We will make every effort to heal them. We will give them the chance they were almost denied.

Because sometimes, survival itself is a miracle—and these three are living proof.

Our community really stepped up, and we were blown away by the number of groomers who reached out to help.

THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH! ❤️ Both dogs have had their grooming needs taken care of and have been adopted!

We’re reaching out to our local grooming community for help. 🐾

Two senior Newfoundland/St. Bernard mixes were recently surrendered to Suncoast Humane Society, and they need some extra care. Their thick coats have developed heavy matting, and a proper grooming will make a huge difference in their comfort and quality of life.

This isn’t just about looks. It’s about relief, mobility, and helping them feel like themselves again.

Meet Jax 🐾 🐈‍⬛

This tiny little guy has already been on quite the journey.

Jax was found tucked inside the engine compartment of a car… and somehow made it all the way from Jacksonville to Englewood on a five-hour drive without anyone knowing he was there. 🚗

The day before the trip, someone thought they heard a kitten crying near the car. They searched everywhere but couldn’t locate him. Later that night, a mama cat was spotted nearby and the crying stopped, so it seemed like everything was okay.

The next morning, still nothing.

So the trip began.

But once she arrived in Englewood… the crying started again.

This time, she knew.

She rushed to a mechanic, and sure enough, they found this tiny kitten hidden inside the engine compartment… alive.

A little dehydrated, but otherwise okay.

She named him Jax, after where his journey began.

Now he’s safe, getting the care he needs, and already making himself comfortable… as you can see 💙

Our Paws for Play Kid’s Day Camp is happening this Friday! 🐾

If you’re looking for something fun, meaningful, and a little different for the kids, this is a great way to spend the day.

Kids in grades 1–5 will get hands-on with the animals while learning what it takes to care for them. They’ll meet and feed our capybaras, make enrichment treats for the dogs, read stories to help pups relax, spoil the cats with special treats, and even create adoption posters to help real shelter pets find homes.

They’ll also get a behind-the-scenes look at the shelter and wrap up the day with some well-earned puppy playtime.

It’s a full day of fun, but it’s also about building empathy, confidence, and showing kids how much their kindness matters.

Update on Alana 🐾❤️

It’s been a few days since this sweet girl came to us, and we wanted to share a little progress.

We’ve since named her Alana… and she’s been getting the care she’s needed for a long time.

That includes medicated baths to help soothe and heal her skin. And the best part? She actually loves them. You can tell she knows they make her feel better, and she soaks up every second of that relief.

It’s a slow process, but she’s already starting to feel more comfortable.

Moments like this matter more than people realize. The baths, the treatment, the time and patience… it all adds up to giving her a real chance at feeling good again.

She’s still on her journey, but she’s safe, she’s being cared for, and she’s finally getting what she needs.

And sadly… there are so many more like her.

Meet Willow! 🐾

Willow proudly wears the crown as Queen of Tennis Balls, and she takes her title very seriously. For her, there’s nothing better than a good game of fetch and a human to share it with. She’s full of energy, joy, and that kind of playful spirit that makes every day a little more fun.

But underneath that playful side is a soft, affectionate girl who truly loves her people. Willow is gentle, sweet, and just as happy curling up next to you as she is chasing after her favorite toy.
