Ag Fact Friday:
Today, one U.S. farm feeds about 166 people.
This number continues to grow as farms get bigger and technology allows each farmer to produce more. In 1960 each farmer fed just 26 people.
In the 1970's Jeanne Mertz of rural Riley County conceived the idea of promoting Kansas agriculture by erecting signs telling how many people each farmer feeds. Those first signs read, "1 Kansas Farmer Feeds 55 People + You".
