⚠️ Severe Weather Pet Safety Reminder ⚠️

With dangerous weather approaching our area, we want to share a few important tips to help keep your pets safe:

• Let dogs out now for potty breaks before the storm arrives—conditions may quickly become unsafe.
• Bring all pets indoors if at all possible. High winds, heavy rain, and loud thunder can cause panic and lead to pets running off.
• Create a safe space inside your home—away from windows, preferably in an interior room.
• Ensure proper ID—make sure collars and tags are secure and information is up to date. Microchips should be registered with current contact info.
• Use crates if your pet is trained—this can help them feel secure during loud storms.
• Keep leashes, carriers, and emergency supplies nearby in case you need to move quickly.
• For outdoor animals, provide sturdy shelter, clean water, and protection from wind and flying debris—but bringing them inside is always safest.

Severe storms can happen quickly, and preparation makes all the difference. Please take a few minutes now to make sure your pets are safe.

Stay safe, everyone 🐾💜

🐾 Don’t Litter, Spay & Neuter Your Critter! 🐾

There are so many benefits to spaying or neutering your pet—and it truly saves lives. By fixing your animal, you’re helping reduce the pet homelessness crisis. There are simply too many animals in shelters and not enough homes for them all.

Spaying and neutering also come with important medical benefits. Your female pet can live a longer, healthier life—spaying helps prevent uterine infections and significantly reduces the risk of breast tumors. Neutering your male pet eliminates the risk of testicular cancer and lowers the chance of prostate issues.

Behavior matters, too! Neutered males are less likely to roam away from home in search of a mate (which can lead to injuries from traffic or fights). It can also improve behavior—unaltered males are more likely to mark or spray, mount other animals or objects, and may show more aggression. Early neutering can help prevent some of these behaviors altogether.

And let’s not forget—spaying and neutering is cost-effective. The one-time cost of the procedure is far less than the expense of caring for an unexpected litter.

There are so many reasons to fix your pets… what’s stopping you?

🐾 License Your Pets Online!
Emporia Police Department now offers online pet licensing for dogs and cats. Licensing your pet helps Animal Control quickly identify and return lost pets to their families.

Remember, City ordinance requires pets to be licensed and on a leash, and limits households to no more than 3 dogs, no more than 3 cats, and no more than 5 total combined.
