A friendly awareness post to the community about our shelter!
I just wanted to send this post out to the community so that everyone is aware and has a chance of getting their fur babies back should they go missing. Often times when our animals are missing, we look around the neighborhood but we may not always think about contacting the shelter. It is very important to always check at your local animal shelter immediately. We all love our pets as they are a part of our families and anytime they are missing, this is a terrible experience For anyone. The Emporia Animal Shelter strives hard to place all animals back with their families. It is one of our main goals to reunite all animals back to their owners if they have one. We do this by using our Facebook platform and other resources so that the community is aware of animals in our care, in case someone is missing their pet. However, our shelter must hold animals for 7 days without identification and 10 days with identification such as collars, tags, tattoos ,etc. Once that time has expired, if no one has claimed the animal, the Emporia Animal Shelter becomes the new owner of the animal. At this point, we start looking for placements in rescues and also adopters for these animals to get them moved. This is due to the high volume of animals we take in and also so that an animal doesn’t remain at the shelter for a long period if they have a chance to get adopted or sent to a rescue for adoption. We work hard to keep all animals stress free while in our care but shelters can become stressful for animals due to an unfamiliar environment, new unfamiliar animals, noise, and strange smells that they are not used to. Please understand that if you come forward to claim your animal after their hold time has expired and we still have them, we will be more than happy to return them back to you. However, if you come to the shelter after their time has expired, there’s a chance they may have already been adopted or sent to a rescue for adoption. Once an animal has already left the shelter, our staff can not guarantee that you will be able to get the Animal back. This post is to provide our community with information so that our shelter can successfully return animals back home to their families. Thank each of you for your continued support for our shelter.
