When a newborn puppy is struggling to clear their airway, every second counts. 🩺

The DeeLee mucus trap is one of my favorite tools for safely and effectively suctioning fluid from a puppy’s mouth and nose right after birth.

Ever wish you could see which puppies are thriving — and which might need a little extra help — at a glance?

Now you can. 👇

I built a Puppy Weight Tracker in Google Sheets that automatically calculates each puppy’s percentage gain or loss and color-codes the results:
🟩 Green = healthy gain
🟥 Red = needs attention

All you do is type in their AM and PM weights, and the math happens for you.

No more guessing, no more mental math — just clear data to help you catch problems early.

Those first 24 hours after whelping can be the most beautiful — and the most stressful.

Here are 5 things that matter most for every newborn puppy’s survival:
🩺 Clear airways and stimulate breathing
🧣 Keep puppies warm (85–90°F for the box)
⚖️ Weigh and record birth weight
🍼 Make sure they latch for colostrum
📞 Know when to call your vet

The calm, prepared breeder saves lives.

We’re excited to share that both Dr. Shaw and Dr. Belton are now officially PennHIP certified! 🐾🩺

PennHIP (Pennsylvania Hip Improvement Program) is the most advanced screening method available for detecting hip dysplasia in dogs. This certification allows our doctors to provide earlier, more accurate assessments of hip health — which means better prevention, treatment planning, and breeding decisions for our patients.

We’re proud to bring this specialized service to our community and continue expanding the ways we can support pets in living long, healthy, and comfortable lives. 💙

📣 New on the Blog: Exploring Treatment Options for Pyometra Beyond Spay

Pyometra. Just hearing the word can make your heart drop. It’s scary, emotional, and all too often treated like a dead end for intact bi***es.

But here’s the truth: if you catch it early and work with a repro-savvy veterinarian, there are options. Surgical spay is still the gold standard in many cases—but it’s not the only choice.

In the newest blog post, I walk you through:
- What pyometra is and how progesterone plays a role
- The pros and cons of treatments like Alizin, prostaglandins, and more

📍For breeders committed to both health and longevity in their girls, this one’s for you.

What do you do after a missed breeding?

Try again?
Maybe with a different stud?
Maybe on a different day?
Maybe just hoping for better luck?

But what if you had a way to pause, look at what actually happened, and build a plan with confidence?

That’s what I’ll teach inside:
Unpacking A Missed Breeding: A Workshop for Clarity, Confidence, and a Better Plan Forward

You’ll learn how to step back after a breeding doesn’t take and actually figure out what might have contributed—and what to do differently next time.

Just because the breeding didn’t result in pregnancy…
doesn’t mean you did it all wrong.

You were thoughtful, careful, and committed.
And even so, sometimes… it just doesn’t work.
That doesn’t mean you failed. It means it’s time to regroup—with support.

You finally found the perfect match. The timing is right, the female is ready—and the stud is “proven.” He’s sired puppies before, so what could go wrong?

Well… more than you might think.

Fertility isn’t fixed. A stud who was fertile last year (or even last season) may not be today. Illness, age, stress—even heat exposure—can quietly change semen quality. And if you’re shipping chilled semen? That adds another layer of complexity.

In our latest blog post, we break down what “proven” really means, why it’s not a guarantee, and what to ask or check before your next breeding.

🐾 Your First Breeding Doesn’t Have to Be a Mystery
If your first experience with breeding left you feeling overwhelmed, confused, or even a little heartbroken — you are so not alone.

Many breeders start out with a healthy female, big dreams, and a lot of love… but not always the full picture. That’s why I wrote this post: to share the honest, compassionate vet advice I wish every first-time breeder had before their female ever came into season.

In it, you’ll find:
✔️ Why even a “perfect” breeding might not result in pregnancy
✔️ A plain-English guide to breeding methods (tie, AI, TCI, surgical)
✔️ Tips for working with your repro vet as a true teammate
✔️ A checklist to help you plan more confidently next time

No judgment. No fear tactics. Just grounded, science-based support to help you move forward with clarity and compassion.
