: Sometimes, a dog chooses you. 🐾🌟
{WARNING: You may want a tissue for this one}
When James, who served in the U.S. Marine Corps, came to Paws Crossed looking for a dog, he spotted Sage walking on our property with one of our volunteers. He just knew ..... Sage was brought into the meet-and-greet room… and, you guessed it .... she knew, too. 🥹
Through our incredible partnership with Pets for Patriots, Sage went home with James. And what he shared with us about their journey together brought us to tears:
“She needed a safe home. I needed a reason to believe that souls shaped by trauma could still trust, love, and begin again. She carries scars from a life I’ll never fully know, and I carry scars from a war I’ll never forget. Somehow, two survivors found each other. I thought I rescued her. Turns out, we were both rescues.” ❤️
And Sage continues to remind him every day that love can be healing. When she senses his anxiety is running high, she buries her head into him and gives him kisses. She’s also become a wonderful companion to James’s children, showing off her very best momma skills. 🐾
This is why we do what we do. Sometimes a dog needs a family. Sometimes a person needs a dog. And sometimes, two souls find each other at exactly the right moment.
James, thank you for your service, your sacrifice, and for opening your heart and home to Sage. We are so grateful Paws Crossed could be part of your story.
And Sage… you didn't just find your forever home. You found your person. And he found you. ❤️🐾
