We received an advisory to California fi****ms dealers that is in compliance with the California penal code section 28160 beginning on Thursday August 27th of 2026 we are required that a firearm dealer enter the purchaser's occupation for all firearm background check transactions if the purchaser has no occupation we may enter none but we must obtain an accurately enter this information to complete and submit a background check. Incomplete entries will prevent a successful submission of the transaction. (I wonder if there will be an option to enter none of your damn business?)

CHANGES*** Retrieving Test Held at Pointing Breed Field Trials

For the breeds that require retrieving credits—German Shorthaired Pointers, German Wirehaired Pointers, Vizslas, and Weimaraners—this is a significant change. The AKC is creating a new Retrieving Test that clubs may choose to offer at field trials. Instead of having to place in a traditional retrieving stake, dogs can now earn retrieving credits by simply passing this test. Communication-Retrieving-Test-in-PBFTs-July-2027.pdf

The biggest changes

* Effective November 1, 2026
* Clubs may optionally hold a pass/fail Retrieving Test at licensed pointing breed field trials.
* Each passing dog earns one retrieving credit.
* Four retrieving credits are still required for GSPs, GWPs, Vizslas, and Weimaraners to earn an FC or AFC title—the requirement itself has not changed. What changes is how those credits can be earned.

FC vs. AFC credits

* If the dog passes while handled by an amateur, the credit counts toward both FC and AFC.

How the test works

The test is judged by two approved AKC pointing breed field trial judges, and both must agree the dog passed. Communication-Retrieving-Test-in-PBFTs-July-2027.pdf

The dog must:

1. Find and point a live bird.
2. Remain steady to wing, shot, and fall (minor movement to mark the fall may be allowed).
3. Wait until the bird is on the ground before being sent.
4. Retrieve the bird to within one step of the handler.

If things don’t go perfectly

If the bird can’t be safely shot or is missed:

* The dog is removed.
* Another bird is released.
* After two unsuccessful attempts, a dead bird may be thrown while another gunner fires into the air, allowing the retrieve to be completed. Communication-Retrieving-Test-in-PBFTs-July-2027.pdf

Club rules

* Offering the test is optional.
* A club can hold only one Retrieving Test per trial.
* A dog may enter the test only once per trial.
* Dogs do not have to enter another stake to enter the Retrieving Test.
* Clubs may charge an entry fee.
* Passing dogs receive a dark green ribbon or rosette.

Why AKC made the change

AKC states the current system has become a barrier because dogs had to place in retrieving stakes to earn credits. This was especially difficult for:

* retrieving breeds competing in All-Age stakes, and
* clubs or areas where retrieving stakes have limited participation.
