Meet Blinky. He's a one-year-old domestic longhair with a favorite hiding spot, several safe napping ledges, and a purr he's only recently started sharing.

When Blinky first arrived, he wanted nothing to do with the open room. He'd tuck himself behind or under whatever furniture was closest and wait things out. Lately, though, he's been braver. He'll lounge out in the open now, and if you sit with him and offer a few slow pets, he'll purr right back at you.

He's still working on his confidence, and that's completely fine by us. Blinky would do best in a calm, quieter home with a few good hiding spots he can retreat to when the world feels like a lot. He's good with kids, good with cats, and good with dogs, so the household part is easy. The pace of the home is what matters most for him.

If you met his brother Dewey in one of our earlier posts, you'll notice the two couldn't be more different. Dewey runs the room. Blinky watches it from a comfortable distance and warms up in his own time. Both are wonderful. Blinky just needs someone patient enough to let him show it.

Meet Jim and Dwight, the newest additions to the shelter who did not choose their own names but absolutely lived up to them within about five minutes of meeting our staff.

Dwight, a domestic shorthair, is committed to his bit. He wants to interact immediately, explore every corner of a room, and test every toy for approval (pencils and bottle caps included). He brings the energy first and asks questions never.

Jim, a domestic mediumhair, plays it cooler. He'll hang back, watch the whole scene unfold, size up the situation, and then make his move with perfect comedic timing. If Dwight is the opening act, Jim is the one waiting for the exact right moment to steal the scene.

Both boys are 4 months old, good with kids, good with cats, and good with dogs, so they're an easy fit for almost any household, whether that's one home for both of them or two separate ones.

Ever wondered what a career in veterinary medicine actually looks like day to day? On Sunday, August 9th from 1:00–2:30pm, join us in our clinic building (Building #2, same address as our shelter) for Introduction to Vet Med, a hands-on workshop for teens and high schoolers curious about the field.

Cofacilitated by Dr. Liz Wilcox, DVM, and our Community Educator, Matt Guagliardo, LMSW, MS.Ed, this workshop will let attendees:

Learn what a career in veterinary medicine can look like
• Ask a working veterinarian their questions directly
• Observe a live cat or dog spay/neuter surgery
• Practice the basics of a wellness exam with one of our adoptable animals
• Get guidance on which college classes can help prepare them for this path

Space is limited, so registration is required. You'll find the sign-up link in the comments below.

If you know a teenager who lights up around animals or has been eyeing a future in vet med, this workshop is built for them.

Seven puppies. Two arrivals. One very exciting week at Chemung County SPCA.

Today, five puppies are heading back to us from their foster home: Nestle (M), Oreo (M), Keebler (F), Gingersnap (F), and Macaroon (M), the litter you may remember as the Cookie Crumble Litter. All five are 15 weeks old, born to a small mixed breed mom and a terrier dad.

Tomorrow, two more join the mix: Bronson (M) and Brodie (M), both 3-month-old Lab mixes (Bronson may have a little Anatolian Shepherd in him too).

Here's the thing: with this much puppy energy landing at once, interest is going to move fast, and the only way to meet any of these pups in person is through a scheduled meet and greet. We can't do walk-ins for puppies this popular.

If you want a shot at meeting one of these seven, get your application in now at chemungspca.org/adopt. We'll follow up to get you scheduled.

Seven puppies, limited time, apply today.

**UPDATE: THIS LITTLE DOLL HAS BEEN ADOPTED**

Chloe used to let her brothers do the talking.

When she first came to us with her mom, Tux, and her littermates, Chloe was the quiet one. Content to hang back while her siblings tumbled around the kennel, she watched more than she played. That was a few weeks ago.

This past weekend, her last two brothers found their homes. And almost overnight, Chloe turned into an entirely different cat. She's suddenly the one batting at toys with both paws, climbing into laps uninvited, and purring the second anyone walks by. Turns out she had a big personality in there the whole time. She just needed the room to show it.

At three months old, this little domestic shorthair is good with other cats, comfortable around kids, and easygoing with dogs, which makes her a fit for almost any kind of household. She's the last one from her litter still waiting, and honestly, we think that's the community's loss so far.

Chloe is ready to meet her people. Adoption info is here: www.chemungspca.org/adopt

**UPDATE: THIS BEAUTIFUL LADY HAS BEEN ADOPTED!**

Meet Maribeth, a five-month-old black kitten who has fully mastered the art of relaxation. She's a champion lap-sitter, an enthusiastic purrer, and firmly believes that scritches are a basic need, right up there with food and naps.

But Maribeth isn't just about the chill life. She's easygoing with everyone she meets: other cats, dogs, and kids all get along with her just fine. That kind of flexibility makes her a great fit for almost any household, whether you've got a big, busy family or you're just looking for a quiet companion to loll around with in the evenings.

Black cats are too often the last to get noticed at the shelter, and we think that's a shame, especially when one is as sweet as Maribeth. She's ready to bring her particular brand of purring, snuggly charm into a home of her own.

Meet Dewey, a one-year-old domestic longhair who's mastered the art of being both a social butterfly and a total homebody. He'll greet you at the door, ask for a chin scratch, then happily settle in for a nap right beside you. Dewey does well with other cats, dogs, and kids, so he fits nicely into just about any kind of household. He's got that easy, affectionate energy that makes a house feel more like home.

If you've got room on the couch (he'll fill it fast) and a little time for his hellos, we think you two could be a great match.

Come meet Dewey today. Adoption info here: www.chemungspca.org/adopt

Eleven animals went home this week — and nine of them are local success stories from start to finish. Tom, Star, Runt, Kayak, Moe, Pontoon, Tucker, Mikey, Titan, Winston, and Socks were all adopted this week, and most came to us as local surrenders right here in Chemung County before finding homes right back in our community. Tom and Titan joined us through our transport program and found their people just as quickly.

Special thanks to Mattress By Appointment for hosting our off-site adoption event this weekend, where two of our cats, Winston and Socks, found their new homes. We're grateful for community partners who open their doors to help animals find families.

It's a good reminder that our work runs in both directions — supporting animals from right here at home, and lending a hand to animals who need transport to find their shot at a home too.

Congratulations to all eleven new families this week.
