Oh Big Mack-I will miss you forever. Please see my latest post for the update. My heart is shattered.

The best horse in the world is running free in Heaven. I told him he better be the first thing I see when I get there. I’ll be ready for one of his hugs.

Mack took his final breath on his own. He tried to get up but his back legs wouldn’t work. He was tired yall. I told him I’m shelfish and want him here but it’s okay for him to go. I hurt from watching him struggle and he deserves a renewed body. I havr some peace knowing he finally has one now.

I prayed to God to let him go peacefully and he did. I believe his heart stopped from trying to get up. I will love thos horse forever wed miss him everyday.

Edited to add-his back legs do not want to lift him. I had already called ther vet to come. He will be here soon. We are going to try to lift him but please please pray. I wont let him suffer and my heart is in pieces.

Pray hard. We were going to load him but his back legs gave out again. No way we can take him anywhere. My brothers skidster is here and he's rushing back. I'm keeping him cooled down.

Mack walked down to the tank and got several good drinks. He laid down. I'm so happy to see him getting some much needed rest.

To sum up today. He walked out of the barn this morning which was amazing to witness. He is on steroids and bute to help with inflammation. I talked to Texas A & M and another large animals hospital. I was told they would not do IV fluids if he's drinking good and would not do a feed tube until he goes longer without eating. They agreed he needs to be more stable before hauling and is progressing forward so they suggest that we wait until we're confident he can make the trip.

Our fear is hauling him and with him being unstable that he would fall down in the trailer because he wouldn't have the space need to get stable. He has shiver episodes frequently right now that makes him loose his balance. Most horses that get down in a trailer require euthanasia.

The haul to the hospital and the stay and procedures would also cause more stress which causes neuro issues. Texas A & M said it soundsclike strangles after I shared his symptoms. Sue said that would require 2200 to scooe and flush his glutual pouch for 3 days. He would have to be awdated whixh also is diffixukt for Mack. We will take him if needed of course but it will cause him a lot of stress.

We are praying he continues to get more stable so we can take him if needed. Texas A & M would put him in isolation. He would be alone with employees looking through the window every hour and only allow 30 minute supervised visits. This would drive him bonkers. He has shivers episodes frequently and needs the space to keep from falling. We will likely take him to a different hospital that allows visits and is about 25 minutes closer.

We need prayers for his healing. I know it has to run the course but we need to pray that his body gets cleared of all infections and is healed.

He also ate several treats mixed with alfalfa pellets. Prayers that he starts eating better asap.

So the plan for now is to get his walking stable so he can make the drive if needed. Most likely tomorrow evening if he isn't eating much better and that gives him 3 days on steroids. Also get him to eating better

WARNING-Upsetting to watch. Big Mack falls. Edited to add that Solomon is fine. Wouldnt have never known anything if I wasn’t comparing.

Today has not been a good day. I called Dr. Cummingham this morning to come evaluated Mack again and to give him IV fluids. And to also run a strangles test on Solomon. If you didn't watch our live last night I discovered Macks jaw was swollen and went to feel Solomons to compare and found a puss leaking abscess which resembles strangles. This would make sense why Mack is having issues.

Mack stayed in this area last night so he can graze. We put up this shelter for him this morning and moved the shelter with him so he remained in shade. We kept him here so he can have acess to water, hay, grain and alfalfa 24/7.

I had to go to my orthopedic doctor at 10am for steriod shots but also wanted to pick up some high fat supplements for Mack anyway.

Caydan was so kind and offered to set with Mack while I was gone. Mack really wants to be loved on. I went directly to Mack when I got back. He looked okay but he felt warm so we took a wet towel and got him cooled down. I mce he was a normal temp, Caydan and I decided to walk him to the barn and get the portacool going for him. We were going to build a pen around him.

What happened next was sad and terrifying. I think the walk took too much out of him. I dont know if he was light headed from the walk or the "shivers" neuromuscular disease locked him up longer than usual. He fell and it was very difficult for him to get back up. I felt helpless and hysterical. I had already talked to Tim about trying to get him to supportive overnight care. This will be expensive but I feel like with the likelihood of him having strangles that he can recover.

However I am very concerned that he may get down in the trailer. Please pray for him and that we find a way to get him there. Tim is 3.5 hours away and will come home very tired.

A horse can be a carrier of strangles that ly dormant and never appear sick.

We will need a lot of help to make this happen for him.
