Binky is still alive.
Was it a week ago that she started to crash, her vitals blowing up like a sudden storm, then crashing like a downpour? All we could do was to hope to stabilize her, and reinforce her foundation with some of the sturdiest love in the world.
Binky had already survived the street, and distemper. Why was our baby so ill?
In this most vulnerable state, Binky contracted Parvo - Parvo the killer, our sworn and toughest enemy. For more than a week Binky refused eat or drink on her own. But we were not prepared to let her go even if she wanted to....we were convinced that her hunger strike was acute, and that we could coax her to remain in the realm of the living. She is such a light. We told her how badly we needed her here with us.
Yesterday Binky ate a little something on her own. Today, she is actually hungry. We are overjoyed and cautiously hopeful.
Even when struggling, even when she hurts, even as we hold her and cry heavy tears, our little Binky smiles. She is our Mona Lisa, an icon of beauty and humility with a warmth that speaks across centuries. We will do anything to help her.
