Watching Denver learn how to trust has been one of the most beautiful journeys.
This boy came here carrying so much fear, so much uncertainty, and today I watched another little piece of his wall come down. He still has a long road ahead of him, but seeing the softness in his eyes now compared to when he first arrived is something I can’t even put into words.
Today he experienced his very first massage… and he needed it more than we realized. His body is holding so much tension, especially in his back end, that it actually prevented part of another huge milestone from being completed today. Trauma doesn’t just live in the mind… it lives in the body too.
Healing horses like Denver is about so much more than groceries and vetting. It’s patience, consistency, touch, kindness, and helping them learn that humans can bring comfort instead of fear.
Tex also had his massage today and these boys both deserve every chance to continue healing — physically and emotionally. 🥹
We would love to get them both on weekly massage schedules to help their bodies relax and continue rebuilding trust and confidence.
