🌟 Train As You Live 🌟

One of the biggest misconceptions about dog training is that it requires hours of structured sessions every day. Even as a professional trainer, I don’t spend hours in “formal” training with my own dogs. What makes the biggest difference isn’t marathon sessions—it’s consistency in the daily routine.

I’m already interacting with my dogs every day, so I add training moments into those interactions:

• First thing in the morning, everyone sits to get their collars on. Mayhem also has to wait calmly before coming out of her crate.

• We walk to the back door together to practice door manners before going out for potty time—and again when we come back in.

• While I enjoy my morning coffee, the dogs go to “place” while I get breakfast ready. They’re “freed” to eat, then back to place while I finish getting ready.

• Heading to work? We practice leash walking and door manners on the way to the car.

These aren’t extra steps in my day—they’re part of what I’m already doing. The dogs learn structure and good habits simply by living life with me.

👉 Think about your own routine.

• Don’t want your dog begging at meals? Perfect chance to practice “place.”

• Struggling with pulling on walks? Work on calm walking just from the house to the driveway before tackling longer walks.

✨ Repetition and consistency are what create reliable habits. If we aren’t practicing the little things daily, we can’t expect our dogs to suddenly perform in big, distracting environments.

At the end of the day, I want dogs to have fun and freedom—but structure needs to be part of the balance. If it’s all play every day, it’s not fair to suddenly expect them to work when the stakes are higher.
