Ralph wants everyone to know we have a stall opening coming at the first of the month.

Come join us. We are a family friendly barn with lessons, workshops, and training available. Best part of this barn is the heat in the winter. Horses are fed multiple times a day and get both grass and alfalfa. Come meet us and see whar NorthWind is all about!

What do you see in this picture? I see a young girl on her first few lessons on my saint of a lesson horse Koko with Bailey helping as I'm stuck on crutches.

I also see a gelding who is nearing 20 years old who needs maintenance and unfortunately in a different circumstance would be someone's throw away. He requires special shoes for his navicular, body work for tight muscles and a daily equioxx to stay comfortable. He has arthritis, his hocks are fusing, and he struggles at times to hold his feet up.

This horse isn't a throw away in this barn. He's an aged horse that can safely take care of the smallest students under saddle. He's a slow walker that can teach the most timid to lead. He's got so much patience that he can stand tied for hours very carefully shifting weight so he never steps on little toes. His experience is something I rely on daily. His kindness is something all my kids talk about. He has so many loving youth riders the bulk of them under 10 years old.

Yes he costs me extra to keep but I feel he is more than worth the extra expense and effort to keep him comfortable and happy. He still gets to teach my young horses manners, still enjoys turnout, still loves his grazing and at the end of the day I'm blessed to have him as part of my barn. So next time you hear someone thinking maintenance on a horse is a bad thing remember the lessons Koko, my lesson horses and lesson horses across the world teach. They aren't throwaways but instead are vital members of horse society.

I had some last second cancelations for my fall homeschool courses. These courses are kept small for one on one learning opportunities with the horses.

Immerse your students into the world of horses learning basic riding and care skills. Classes are offered once a week for 2 hours. Courses come with all learning materials needed, horses and of course fun! We also offer a bonus private lesson during your course to get even more learning. Courses are kept small for lots of hands on learning time.

Dates for next school year are quarter 1
Tuesdays August 12-October 7 and Wednesdays August 13-October 8. Quarter 2 dates are Tuesdays October 14-December 16 and Wednesdays October 15-December 17. Quarter 4 dates are Tuesdays March 17-May 19 and Wednesdays March 18-May 20.
