Our warer pump decided now would be an excellent time to give up the ghost. Because of this I have made the decision to close the business for the time being. This means I will not be able to provide eggs or dog treats. I am hopeful that in a year or 2 I will be able to restart and once again provide the same quality goods this community deserves.

How do you keep your chickens cool? Shade and water. Nothing fancy about it. You don't have to use frozen food, or put ice in the water. Make sure they have shade they can get to and plenty of "room" temperature water. That's it. Happy chickens.

Honest review
As it is currently, I hate my mobile chicken tractor! The door is small, it is frustrating to move on my hill, and don't get me started on transferring the chickens to their forever coop when it is time.

I've used it for 2 batches of chicks and I refuse to use it again until I modify it at the very least. The door needs to be bigger so I can actually access things. With the door, I also need to figure out a way to be able to transfer the chicks from the tractor to the coop smoothly.

Story time: I transfered chicks today and half of them escaped! I live on a hill and the new coop is surrounded by trees so I was dealing with uneven ground and tree roots. Because of this the back was elevated by 4 inches and I had no way to plug the gap. I had to grab my net and collect the chicks almost one by one. I also had to bring in the dog to round up the ones that went into the undergrowth.

Hopefully I can figure out how to modify this thing so it is less frustrating. My other option is to keep the chicks in the broody shed until they are bigenough for the coop.

Wish me luck!

Update on my incubated egg test: it failed.

At around 18 days incubation I selected 2 eggs per broody hens. That night, around 8pm, I slipped the eggs under each hen. The next morning I checked and each hen still had 2 marked eggs under them. Remember, these hens are in the main coop with everyone else.

I went back out to collect eggs at noon and I checked the marked eggs. I had given a total of 10 eggs. I could only find 6. I did find a squished chick under one hen. I grabbed him and put him with the others in the incubator and hoped for the best.

Over the next days I checked on everyone multiple times each day. Each chick that hatched got pecked and stepped on. I removed the chicks and saved those I could. I also took the remaining 3 unhatched eggs that were still there.

I thought everything was over but yesterday I went out to do a final egg collection and night check and found another squished chick that had been hidden from me.

Overall, an epic fail. I also moved 4 of the hens to a secluded, elevated, cage to hopefully cool off the broody-ness. I still have a few in the main coop claiming broody. I will move them as soon as I can gather another cage together.

On a happy note, look at the others that hatched from the incubator!

I am starting a new experiment. I have six broody hens. I got some chicks to slip under them tonight. However, it got me thinking. What if I incubate some eggs and at lockdown transfer some eggs to the broody hens to hatch? So that is what I am doing. I will let you know what happens in 21ish days!

25 out of 30 eggs hatched, that's 83%! Personally, I think it sounds better the first way, much more impressive! These little ones will grow up through the summer, fall, and winter and will be available as full adult laying chickens next Spring.

And so it begins! The chickens have slowed down in their laying. I also have 7 broodies hens and I just found a random nest by the rabbits! The joys of late spring and summer! Locking them up doesn't work: they jump the fence!!!

After much reflection, I have made the decision to get out of ducks. This means I will no longer be selling duck eggs. I apologize to those who enjoy them. I have a few contacts where you can still find duck eggs.
