7/12/25 - Update

Praise the Lord 🙏🏼 – the source of our major water leak has been located. Repair crews are scheduled to begin work on-site tomorrow.

‼️In the meantime, water conservation remains critical as we work to rebuild tower levels independently rather than relying on regional water.

We sincerely thank all residents for their patience during this challenging month. We understand the inconvenience of repeated boil advisories and unexpected outages. We are also grateful for the leads and support provided by our community—your efforts have not gone unnoticed.

📢 Attention – 7/9/2025 ‼️

We experienced a high service pump failure overnight, which caused the water tower level to drop. Additionally, Regional Water is performing maintenance this morning, and we are unable to run their water into our system at this time. Please know this will more than likely cause us to go back into a boil advisory.

Bottled water is available for residents within our water distribution system. Please park at the SE garage door of the Fire Station and come to City Clerks office to collect your supply. If you need delivery, please call 764-5514.

➡️ Limit: 1 case of water per 4 people per household. PLEASE DO NOT TAKE BOTTLED WATER TO FLUSH TOILETS!!
This will help ensure availability for everyone until more pallets arrive.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

Residents & Businesses :
Thank You for Your Continued Water Conservation Efforts

We sincerely thank everyone for your ongoing efforts to conserve water. Your cooperation is making a meaningful difference during this challenging time.

We want to assure you that we continue to actively investigate the source of the water issue. Unfortunately, despite extensive efforts, we have had little success in pinpointing the problem. We’ve been fortunate to work with several outstanding partners—Shelby County Emergency Management, Westrum Leak Detection, the Iowa Rural Water Association, Snyder & Associates, the Iowa League of Cities, CJ's Excavation, Smiley Well Service, and many others—whose expertise and dedication have been invaluable.

To date, experts have conducted thorough inspections, including listening to valves, hydrants, and service lines directly to homes. Despite these efforts, no clear signs of a leak or failure have been detected.

We are currently receiving a limited water supply from Regional Water to help meet essential needs. Please know that we are treating this situation with the highest level of urgency and are doing everything possible to identify and resolve the issue.

The City Council will meet tonight to discuss next steps and possible solutions, given the challenges we've encountered so far.

Water conservation remains absolutely critical. With usage at an all-time high, your continued conservation efforts are essential in helping us preserve the limited resources available.

Thank you again for your patience, support, and understanding as we work through this situation.

⚠️ Elk Horn Water Notice ⚠️

We experienced another drop in water pressure today around 1PM. Beginning tonight at 9:00 PM, city crews will begin isolating water mains — starting on Madison Street and continuing throughout town. Please help spread the word but informing any of your neighbors who may not see this post.

🔹 Please make sure to complete any household water needs before 9:00 PM, as water may be temporarily unavailable in your area.

If you see city vehicles nearby, be aware:
🔹 Your water may be turned off for up to one hour as we pressurize sections of the system to help identify the ongoing issue.

We appreciate your understanding and patience as we work to resolve this as quickly as possible.
