Bernadette came to us last month with severe open wounds caused by a skin condition called demodex. She needed around-the-clock medicated baths, treatments, and lots of TLC. Thankfully, one of our amazing animal care staff members took her home to foster—making sure she got every bit of medical care and socialization she needed.

Now, at just 11 months old, this sweet Doberman mix is healed up, happy, and ready for her new chapter! Bernadette is playful with dogs of all sizes and has even lived with a cat (though she sometimes can’t resist a little chase — but who doesn’t?).

Hi, I’m Sophie… your future best friend. 💛

I’ve been waiting patiently for over 6 months now, hoping someone special will come along and see what a good girl I am.

I’m a senior kitty — 13 years old (but who’s counting?) — with a calm, quiet heart just looking for a cozy home and a kind human to love. I don’t jump on your counters, I don’t scratch your furniture, and I always use my litter box. I even take my little thyroid pill like a champ — just crush it in a Churu and I’ll gobble it right up. Easy peasy!

I may be a little shy at first, but if you go slow, I’ll let you pet me. I’ve come a long way, and I’m pretty proud of myself. I love gentle games of catch, relaxing near a water fountain, and giving sweet taps when I want your attention. I don’t growl or hiss — I’m just a chill girl who wants to feel safe and loved.

If you’re looking for a soft soul to share your heart and home with… I’m right here. 🐾

Toka, Princess & Eduarda didn’t find their people yesterday—but they found each other. 💛💙

They spent the day meeting new faces and soaking up the love outside the shelter. All three were total stars, and we can’t believe they’re still available!

✨ Toka – This 2-year-old sweetheart is sensitive to loud noises in the shelter, but the moment she’s out, she shines. She’s gentle, social with dogs and people, and just wants a quiet, loving home to call her own.

👑 Princess – Our 11 year-old golden gal is truly royalty! She adores everyone and has become our unofficial mascot—visiting elementary schools, community events, and always spreading joy. If you’re dreaming of a big dog with a soft heart, Princess is your girl.

🌟 Eduarda – Young, eager to please, and already thriving in foster! Her foster mom says she’s a dream—easygoing and well-behaved. She’s ready to learn and love!

Unopened cat and dog food donations can be dropped off Tuesday–Sunday, 12–6 PM at Elk Grove Animal Shelter.
