spay & neuter, bringing awareness to animal cruelty, & raising money for basic medical needs for the animals we help. We are not a regular adoption organization rescue, we do not take in dogs to adopt out. We are more of a half-way home rescue, and pull dogs from local kill shelters to get them vetted and ready for their next step rescue where they will find an adoptive family. At times when we can we will help out owner surrenders to keep them out of the shelters as well. In the past we partnered with a southern kill shelter in a rural county area, but due to staff changes we are no longer able to help there. Some dogs would come in way more sick/injured then we could help, or they had some very serious behavior issues that couldn't be modified (or there’s no partner rescues who would be willing to step up to help). We would never take a chance with anyone’s safety (human or animal) and lie to get the dog out either, so we couldn't save everyone but we tried. We raised/collected pledges for partner rescues who pulled dogs through us, and donated the funds to the rescues once the dog leaves the shelter subtracting any fees we incurred. At times when we had a foster to take in a dog until a rescue was found we were happy since we could make more room at the shelter, since the shelter didn’t have an actual foster program. Sadly now that shelter's euthanasia rate will get higher since we are no longer able to help. Most of our partners wanted proper behavior assessments, which none of the staff at the shelter have the director of this organization's skill set or background in dog training. We were able to get out dogs that were seen by shelter staff to be aggressive or feral, since we knew what the actions truly that the dogs were showing usually due to fear. We are very honest, and transparent in everything we do. If you have any questions about ANYTHING please send us a message. Sometimes a miracle shows up when you least expect it, and Scout may have just gotten his.

We have rescue interest for Scout — something we were hoping would happen. Rescue is willing to step up for him, but financial support is needed to make it possible. Right now, Scout is still $700 short in pledges to secure rescue.

This sweet boy has already beaten the odds once by catching the attention of rescue. Now we just need help getting him across the finish line.

Every pledge, no matter the amount, brings Scout one step closer to leaving the shelter behind and starting a new chapter. The opportunity is there. Rescue is there. We just need the funding to make it happen.

Every day, more dogs are arriving at Bladen County Animal Shelter than are leaving.

Right now, the shelter is overflowing. Kennels are filling up faster than space can be made available, and many of the dogs waiting for help are black dogs and husky mixes. Sadly, black dogs are often overlooked simply because of their color. It’s called “Black Dog Syndrome,” and it happens far too often. Wonderful dogs sit and wait while others get noticed first.

The truth is that these dogs are just as loving, loyal, and deserving of a family as any other dog. They don’t understand why no one has chosen them. They only know they’re still waiting.

The husky mixes coming in are also facing an uphill battle. Many rescues are already full, and with more intakes arriving, the need for rescue partners, fosters, adopters, and shares has never been greater.

Please take a moment to look past the color of a coat or the breed label and see the dog. A dog who wants a soft bed. A family. A chance.

If you are a rescue, foster, or adopter, these dogs need you now. If you can’t adopt, please share this post. One share can put a dog in front of the person who has been looking for them all along.

These dogs deserve more than a kennel. They deserve a future.

Frick is still waiting.

This handsome 2-year-old Husky mix came into the shelter with another dog named Frack. The good news is that Frack found rescue. The hard part is that Frick was left behind.

Frick is a sweet, dog-friendly boy with the most striking blue eyes, but what really stands out is how much he needs someone to give him a chance. He’s underweight and could use some extra groceries, a soft bed, and a person to call his own.

Every day he watches other dogs leave while he stays behind wondering when it will be his turn. We know there is someone out there who will see what we see in him—a good dog who deserves a happy ending.

Please help us get Frick noticed. Share his post, pledge to support his rescue, or come meet him in person. Sometimes all it takes is one share to change a life.

6/18 update ❗️UPDATE!! Bc some dogs left with other rescues, and we were able to take Sasha and have a place for Modello no one died today!! We have chance to save Scout too if we can raise enough pledges but need help for the other four !! Can you help find loving adopters or fosters+rescue?? These are good dogs !! 😭 SHELTER IS OVERFILLED!!

🩷Sasha: Approximately 2yr old, female, mixed breed. Around 50lbs, has some possible mange/hairloss on her neck likely from collar/chain. She was an owner surrender due to moving. She did well on dog test at shelter.

💛Modello: Approximately 2-3yr old, male, mixed breed. Around 50lbs. Did well with other dogs.

💙Scout: Approximately 2y old, male, shepherd/husky mix. Around 50lbs. Did well with other dogs at shelter. Little shy but coming around.

💕Binx: Approximately 2y old, male, shepherd mix. Around 50lbs. Sweet guy. Did ok with other dogs at shelter.

💚Nesco: Approximately 2y old, male, mix breed. Around 50lbs. Did well with other dogs at shelter. Came in with Jacob.

♥️Jacob: Approximately 3y old, male, mixed breed. Around 60lbs. Did well with other dogs at shelter. Big strong guy. Came in with Nesco.

💕May: Approximately 2y old, female, mixed breed. Around 50lbs. Ears were recently BADLY cropped, and are really messed up. Dog test pending.

**Update Goal Met**Rescue Pending

Sasha has an incredible opportunity for rescue, but we need your help to make it happen.

Right now, we’re just $150 short in pledges that could help give this sweet girl the chance she’s been waiting for. Sasha deserves so much more than a shelter kennel. She deserves safety, comfort, and a future filled with love.

Pledges are often what help rescues say “yes” when they are considering taking a dog. Every dollar helps show that people care and that support is there for Sasha.
