Respiratory illnesses in our Canine family members is not a new concern. However, there are precautions that should be taken seriously. This is why we require vaccinations for Kennel Cough and Canine Influenza H3N2/H3N8. Some vets offer Parainfluenza vaccinations and we ask that you request the additional H3N2/H3N8 two part injection. Will this prevent your dog from becoming ill? No, but it will give them a better chance to avoid serious illness. But, there is more...
We have experienced new strains of Canine Respiratory illness over the last two decades at Bowser B&B. We feel outdoor play in a natural environment is preferred to indoor boarding venues. This is our general protocol:
All dogs must present current vaccinations prior to boarding and resubmit updated records annually. We maintain a very tight routine around sanitation and disinfectant procedures. All stainless steel bowls are washed after every use, and we do not use community water sources. All dogs get their own water supply. Hard surfaces are disinfected routinely. Soft surfaces are laundered after each use and sanitized with aerosols. A viralcide (recommend by our vet) is applied to every room and community area within the Kennel and in our vans post departure.
If a dog presents illness, or symptoms of cough, sneezing, and lethargy we will isolate them from the other dogs. We have a second area equipped with fire doors. Our staff will not cross from one area to the next and additional sanitation takes place. We feel confident with our experience in these matters that all of our Bowser dogs are welcome to board with us safely.
We ask, that if your dog shows signs or symptoms of illness that you find alternative care during your vacation. If your dog becomes ill, we will notify you and seek treatment from our local veterinarian. We also ask that you keep personal play and comfort items at home. This will allow for fewer items to be treated with sanitation.
Most importantly, please let us know if your dog shows signs and symptoms of illness after they return home. Seek vet care if your dog is sick. It's better to be more cautious than not.
Call us if you have any questions or concerns!
