**Client Awareness & Assurance Statement**
I am aware of the viral social media post currently circulating regarding an unethical young pet groomer in Michigan who permanently dyed/colored several pets without their owners’ knowledge or consent. I want to address this directly and provide reassurance to my clients.
First and foremost, I would *never* perform any service that permanently alters your pet without your **express, written permission in the form of a signed contract**. Your trust, your pet’s safety, and ethical grooming practices are my top priorities.
At this time, **applying color or dye to animals in a professional grooming setting is illegal in South Carolina**. While pet owners may choose to color or dye their own pets personally, licensed professionals are prohibited from offering this service under current state law.
Many professional groomers in South Carolina are actively working together to overturn this legislation, as today’s pet-safe coloring products are far safer than those available in the past. However, any change to this law is still a long way off, and until it is legally permitted, I will fully comply with state regulations.
On a personal level, I believe that **chemical processing of any kind should be regulated and require proper education, training, and licensing**. Human cosmetologists are required to undergo formal training before performing chemical services, and I believe working with chemical products on pets should require the same level of responsibility, education, and experience.
I do have **formal education in Cosmetology (2010)** and am well aware of what chemical treatments—such as relaxing, perming, and coloring—are capable of. This knowledge further reinforces my commitment to safety, transparency, and professionalism.
Will I offer pet coloring services in the future? Possibly—*if and only if* it becomes legal. At that time, I would require a **formal contract drafted with the assistance of an attorney**, and no service would ever be performed without the client’s full understanding and signed approval beforehand.
To address the elephant in the room: **I would never color your pet without your written consent.**
What occurred in the situation being shared online was unprofessional, unethical, and a risk I am not willing to accept.
Thank you for trusting me with your pets and for allowing me the opportunity to clarify my stance.
