In 1902, in the knife-making workshops in France, a scene as strange as it was ingenious could be seen: men working upside down on stone benches, sharpening their knives.

It wasn't a treat. This position prevented their backs from bending after long hours of work, and allowed them to bear the weight of routine without being disused by pain. The city of Thiers, cradle of French knife-making, was the epicenter of this particular profession.

But there was an even more surprising detail: next to them, lying on their legs, were resting dogs that kept them warm. The animals shared the fatigue, metallic dust, and constant hum of sharpening stones, becoming inseparable companions for the day.

It was hard work, little recognized, but behind every sharpened knife was a life upside down, literally. Men suspended upside down, with the faithful company of a dog on their knees, keeping alive a tradition that today seems incredible, but was an essential part of the art of French knife-making.

Milton Hershey didn’t just make chocolate — he built futures. 🍫👦🏻👧🏽

Childless and driven by compassion, Hershey and his wife founded a boarding school for orphans. Later in life, he went even further — placing his entire fortune and ownership of the Hershey Chocolate Company in a trust for the school.

Today, the Milton Hershey School serves about 2,000 students and holds over $12 billion in assets — still fueled by the success of his chocolate empire.
A sweet story — not of candy, but of kindness that keeps giving.

The woodpecker’s tongue is one of nature’s most astonishing adaptations. Far longer than its beak, the tongue extends back into the skull, wrapping around it—sometimes even looping over the top and around the eye socket. This isn't just to catch insects buried deep within tree bark; it's also a vital piece of shock-absorbing anatomy. As the bird slams its beak into wood at speeds of up to 20 times per second, the tongue’s unique path acts like a biological seatbelt, distributing impact forces and helping to protect the brain from trauma. This remarkable design, supported by a specialized structure called the hyoid apparatus, allows the woodpecker to perform its relentless pecking without suffering concussions—a feat no human could match unprotected.

THANK YOU ALL MY RIDERS AND CAMPERS. All 3 of our Summer Camps are FULL. We only take 12 Campers and often have as many Counselors/Slave Counselors. We are all looking forward to Camps! The Campers have fun too, not just us. However, my Counselors are most excellent during our Water Battles. No Mercy. Riding twice a day, they need it.
