Son Bride Ranch

Son Bride Ranch Son Bride Ranch is a working horse ranch centered around building confidence and character through horsemanship to benefit all those in our community.

Son Bride Ranch was founded by Ramico and Sue Lyn Blackmon. Ramico has spent much of his life as a mentor and coach having trained school-aged, collegiate, world class, and professional athletes. He also was a resident at the Olympic Training Center (OTC) for 10 years in which he competed and finished his career as an accomplished Olympic level wrestler and later a professional MMA fighter. During

his time at the OTC, he saw a great need to empower athletes. In addition, he spent seven years in the social work field where he saw an even greater need to empower children and their families. His passion to work with horses began as a child when he began to ride at his aunt’s horse boarding facility. Consequently, a vision was spawn to use horsemanship as a tool to illustrate a relationship with Christ. Sue Lyn grew up herding cattle on a working cattle ranch owned and operated by her family in NE. She has worked with children for 14 years as a teacher with a Master’s Degree in Education with an emphasis in Special Education. She, too, has come from an athletic background as a Nebraska Husker Cheerleader and has coached many through the National Cheerleader's Association (NCA). Together they have combined almost 50 years of working with children, their families, athletes, and the horses they love. Horses and humans both come into this world with parallel fears, trust issues, strengths, and weaknesses. At Son Bride Ranch, we use horsemanship to show people how humans (horse trainers) resolve these in horses and how Christ resolves them in humans in an effort for our guests to see who they really are…champions destined to succeed at what they desire to and are committed to succeed at. Most people would agree that we rise and fall based on the relationships that we have or do not have with others. Furthermore, children and young adults alike are witnessing and enduring more and more broken relationships which is a breeding ground for fear, anxiety, depression, lack of trust, low self-esteem, and a sense of worthlessness. Unfortunately, even the greatest athletes in the world do not rest exempt from this gradual decay nor the cause of it. Ultimately, these broken relationships give children and all other victims of broken relationships a skewed and false image of our Heavenly Father’s intended relationship with them. Son Bride Ranch exists to stand in the gap where children and their families have experienced so many broken relationships that have led them in a struggle to see Christ as a loving Savior and God as a loving Father. Children quickly learn that our horses aren’t judging their aptitude to perform in academics or sports. They come to know that the horses don’t care what brand of clothes they’re wearing or what size of house they live in. Horses don’t judge they’re way of life, decision making, nor their outward appearance. Consequently, they never experience guilt, shame, or condemnation about those things when around these animals. Therefore, they get to experience and see a template of what a true relationship with Christ is like: no guilt, shame, or condemnation. In turn, the doors open to share Christ, the love of the Father, and all the good He intends for them. Our vision is to see our guests at Son Bride Ranch come to know their Creator as a loving Father who does not, will not, nor cannot condemn them because of the work of Christ on the cross for the purpose of empowering them to discover and fulfill their God-given destinies.

She was so little when she fell off that horse that seemed more like a giraffe to her in those days. It was her first ride. She cried but then did the next best thing. She hopped back on. I’m pretty sure she’s had to do that a time or two since then to get where she is today. Congrats to our young amazing friend🎉

They start so little and the next thing you know they’re in an adult saddle. She’d live in the barn if we’d let her. Hope you had an amazing birthday little Miss Lyttle.

𝗠𝗲𝗲𝘁 𝗢𝘂𝗿 𝗦𝗖𝗖𝗛𝗔 𝗕𝗼𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝗠𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿𝘀 | 𝗤&𝗔 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗩𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗥𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗰𝗼 𝗕𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗸𝗺𝗼𝗻

𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗴 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗯𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝗶𝗻𝘃𝗼𝗹𝘃𝗲𝗱 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗦𝗖𝗖𝗛𝗔?
I believe I first showed in SCCHA in 2021 at 5 Star Ranch. It was a good time.

𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗱𝗶𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗴𝗲𝘁 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗶𝗻 𝗰𝘂𝘁𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 / 𝗰𝗼𝘄 𝗵𝗼𝗿𝘀𝗲 𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘀?
My first love for cow horse disciplines was team penning, which I began in 2014. Shortly afterward, I began showing in ranch sorting. Cutting has been my last stop. I still enjoy them all, but cutting is a different dance. It pulls something more from me, so I find myself in that arena more than the others.

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗱𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗲𝗻𝗷𝗼𝘆 𝗺𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗯𝗲𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗦𝗖𝗖𝗛𝗔?
The good-natured people who make it up. I enjoy learning from those who have carried it on their shoulders since its inception. I value the level of horsemanship shared and the like-mindedness of competitors who often come from many different places. In a nutshell, it’s simply an opportunity to help facilitate something worthwhile.

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁’𝘀 𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗴𝗼𝗮𝗹 𝗼𝗿 𝗽𝗿𝗶𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗦𝗖𝗖𝗛𝗔 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿?
I’d like to see more kids showing in youth classes this season.

𝗖𝘂𝗿𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗵𝗼𝗿𝘀𝗲𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂’𝗿𝗲 𝗿𝗶𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴?
I currently have three go-to horses when it comes to cutting and other cow horse events: Playin Doctress, Par Bar Hickory, and Tamulena’s Player.

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗮𝗱𝘃𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝘄𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗴𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝘀𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗻𝗲𝘄 𝘁𝗼 𝗰𝘂𝘁𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴?
Be patient with yourself. Your horse has a lot to teach you. It goes better with a good trainer — and we have quite a few that frequent our shows. Get to as many shows as you can. You’ll be around the most concentrated population of people who think and dream like you do when it comes to horses and cattle. Then just let God and osmosis do their work.

𝗙𝗮𝘃𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝗰𝗹𝗮𝘀𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗲𝘁𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗼𝗿 𝘄𝗮𝘁𝗰𝗵?
The Open Cutting. There’s something very satisfying about overcoming those morning jitters to compete against the best there.

𝗙𝗮𝘃𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝘀𝗻𝗮𝗰𝗸?
Unequivocally, an iced honeybun accompanied by a Mountain Dew. Sometimes I switch the Dew out for coffee to cut back the sugar — but as long as the honeybun is there, there’s nothing to complain about.

𝗘𝗮𝗿𝗹𝘆 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀 𝗼𝗿 𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗻𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀 𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗯𝗮𝗿𝗻?
I prefer early mornings, but late nights are nothing uncommon with the way my schedule has run for the last decade.

𝗢𝗻𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗽𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝗺𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂?
I raise Wagyu cattle.

𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗶𝘀 𝘀𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗵 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗻𝗲𝘄 𝗿𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂?
Supporting youth and new riders is part of my work outside SCCHA with Sonbride Ranch, so it’s extra special that I get to do it here as well. Support builds confidence — and confidence is currency. When we support youth and new riders well, they’re more likely to carry on what brings us purpose and pleasure in the discipline of cutting — and hopefully do it just as well, or better, than we did.
